About the area: The estate is situated in the Alentejo one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of Portugal, close to the Spanish border. Good roads make the drive from Lisbon around two hours. The area is steeped in history and there are several medieval castles to visit and ancient remains to be seen. The Sao Mamede Natural Park is a haven for many of Europe's rarest birds and animals. There are also a number of dams and reservoirs for swimming if you tire of the pools.
About the property: The house lies within 130 acres of woodland and pastureland abounding with cork oaks, eucalyptus and umbrella pines. Indigenous shrubs and flowers flourish in their natural state. A small vineyard has recently been planted. There is a large area of more formal lawns and garden to the rear of the house, and wonderful views towards the hills of the Natural Park and the medieval village of Alegrete. Although very peaceful, it is possible to walk to the small local village through the property in about five minutes.
Who will enjoy it: Almost everyone will fall in love with the house and its beautiful surroundings. We have successfully let to single families, two or three families wanting to share together, or groups of friends or family wanting to share a special occasion such as a 40th birthday party or wedding anniversary. Usually in these circumstances the house is let in conjunction with the smaller cottage which accommodates up to five more people (see property no 2136). Extra bed and breakfast accommodation is available locally for the really big bash!
