Tapada do Falcao stands in 130 acres of woodland and pasture land. There are two exclusive pools, a tennis court, full size trampoline, tree house and wonderful gardens with numerous terraces for outdoor eating. The house offers spacious accommodation and is ideal for 2 or 3 families to share. For larger groups Casa do Outeiro, a 300 year old renovated cottage on the estate sleeping up to 5, may also be available (see property no 2136). Notes:

The house has two pools; the original 8 metre pool is the central feature in a walled garden close to the house and is unusual in that it has terracotta tiles and not blue on the bottom. The larger 14 metre pool is 100 metres from the house surrounded by lawns and terrace and with breathtaking views to the hills beyond. There is a full sized trampoline, tennis court and large tree house in the gardens. Mountain bikes are available to hire. Inside, the house is well equipped, with new furniture in the sitting room, an extensive library and a grand piano. There is a large American-style fridge with ice making facilities. It is usually possible to arrange maid service for a small additional charge payable locally.

About the area

The estate is situated in the Alentejo one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of Portugal, close to the Spanish border. Good roads make the drive from Lisbon around two hours. The area is steeped in history and there are several medieval castles to visit and ancient remains to be seen. The Sao Mamede Natural Park is a haven for many of Europe's rarest birds and animals. There are also a number of dams and reservoirs for swimming if you tire of the pools.

About the property

The house lies within 130 acres of woodland and pastureland abounding with cork oaks, eucalyptus and umbrella pines. Indigenous shrubs and flowers flourish in their natural state. A small vineyard has recently been planted. There is a large area of more formal lawns and garden to the rear of the house, and wonderful views towards the hills of the Natural Park and the medieval village of Alegrete. Although very peaceful, it is possible to walk to the small local village through the property in about five minutes.

Who will enjoy it

Almost everyone will fall in love with the house and its beautiful surroundings. We have successfully let to single families, two or three families wanting to share together, or groups of friends or family wanting to share a special occasion such as a 40th birthday party or wedding anniversary. Usually in these circumstances the house is let in conjunction with the smaller cottage which accommodates up to five more people (see property no 2136). Extra bed and breakfast accommodation is available locally for the really big bash!
