Largs is in a beautiful setting with the islands of Cumbrae and Arran facing the town and majestic hills behind. Largs caters for most peoples' holiday demands and has been attracting families and sporting groups for many years. It is one of Scotland's best loved holiday resorts. It has excellent sporting and leisure facilities, in particular two 18 hole golf courses, two fine 18 hole putting greens, 7 tennis courts, bowling green, swimming pool, bowling alley, cinema and Kelburn Country Centre. Largs is a walkers delight both at sea level and over the surrounding hills. It has many cafes, bars & restaurants. Largs is emerging as a premier yachting venue and has an excellent Marina. A regular ferry service to the island of Cumbrae allows for a very pleasant day out - cycling around the fairly flat 10 mile perimeter of the island is very popular as is dawdling in its magic wee town of Millport. The Waverly, the last sea going paddle steamer in the world, calls in at Largs pier.

Local activities diving, swimming, tennis, walking, sailing, cycling, fishing, golf, wind-surfing, water skiing, paragliding, roller blading

Largs Town Centre

The compact town centre, which is only ten minutes walk from the Apartment, is attractive and is close to both the sea front and the Cumbrae ferry terminal. Parking can be difficult in high season. It has a supermarket and many shops including Woolworths, WH Smith and Superdrug. There are many cafes, bars and restaurants. For those who wish to totally relax the promenade walks are gentle, in particular the walk to the Marina, via the Pencil Monument, where you can have a refreshment in very pleasant surroundings. For full details visit the Tourist Information Centre. A regular train service to Glasgow operates seven days a week and it allows for connections to both Glasgow and Prestwick airports. Largs caters for all Christian denominations and there are regular services at all churches. Full details on methods of travelling to Largs will be provided on request.

Golf and Sailing

Many golfers who wish to play the many excellent courses in Ayrshire (including Turnberry and Royal Troon) use Largs as their base because of the 2 local courses, Routenburn (where a young Sam Torrance learnt his craft) and Kelburn and the fact that most courses are within 15 to 45 minutes drive from Largs. Virtually all courses welcome visitors and are reasonably priced. Expect to pay a bit more for the Championship courses and they also ask for handicap certificates. Specific details on courses and their location can be provided on request. Largs has an excellent Marina where good food and magnificent sea views can be had from the two licenced restaurants. They are open to the general public.

Excursion Trips

These are numerous and a visit to the Tourist Information Centre is worthwhile. However have a day out in the county town of Ayr and take in the Robert Burns country. He was born in Alloway just outside of Ayr. The house is now a museum. One hour's drive will take you to the Trossachs which on a fine day is a a scenic delight. From here you can go onto Stirling and visit its very fine castle. Rob Roy's country is close by. Take a ferry from Gourock over to the island of Bute (Dunoon or Hunter's Quay) and meander up the A885 through the scenic grandeur wildness of Argyleshire to Tarbet. Turn south and this will take you beside the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond . Keep on the A82 and cross the Erskine Bridge(toll) and back on to the M8 towards Greenock and eventual return to Largs. These are relaxing drives and the roads are seldom busy. Glasgow is 50 mins drive from Largs and Edinburgh 1.5 hours.
