Largs is in a beautiful setting with the islands of Cumbrae and Arran facing the town and majestic hills behind. Largs caters for most peoples' holiday demands and has been attracting families and sporting groups for many years. It is one of Scotland's best loved holiday resorts. It has excellent sporting and leisure facilities, in particular two 18 hole golf courses, two fine 18 hole putting greens, 7 tennis courts, bowling green, swimming pool, bowling alley, cinema and Kelburn Country Centre. Largs is a walkers delight both at sea level and over the surrounding hills. It has many cafes, bars & restaurants. Largs is emerging as a premier yachting venue and has an excellent Marina. A regular ferry service to the island of Cumbrae allows for a very pleasant day out - cycling around the fairly flat 10 mile perimeter of the island is very popular as is dawdling in its magic wee town of Millport. The Waverly, the last sea going paddle steamer in the world, calls in at Largs pier.

Further details for this holiday apartment rental in Ayrshire & Arran, United Kingdom

Largs Town Centre : The compact town centre, which is only ten minutes walk from the Apartment, is attractive and is close to both the sea front and the Cumbrae ferry terminal. Parking can be difficult in high season. It has a supermarket and many shops including Woolworths, WH Smith and Superdrug. There are many cafes, bars and restaurants. For those who wish to totally relax the promenade walks are gentle, in particular the walk to the Marina, via the Pencil Monument, where you can have a refreshment in very pleasant surroundings. For full details visit the Tourist Information Centre. A regular train service to Glasgow operates seven days a week and it allows for connections to both Glasgow and Prestwick airports. Largs caters for all Christian denominations and there are regular services at all churches. Full details on methods of travelling to Largs will be provided on request.

Golf and Sailing: Many golfers who wish to play the many excellent courses in Ayrshire (including Turnberry and Royal Troon) use Largs as their base because of the 2 local courses, Routenburn (where a young Sam Torrance learnt his craft) and Kelburn and the fact that most courses are within 15 to 45 minutes drive from Largs. Virtually all courses welcome visitors and are reasonably priced. Expect to pay a bit more for the Championship courses and they also ask for handicap certificates. Specific details on courses and their location can be provided on request. Largs has an excellent Marina where good food and magnificent sea views can be had from the two licenced restaurants. They are open to the general public.

Excursion Trips : These are numerous and a visit to the Tourist Information Centre is worthwhile. However have a day out in the county town of Ayr and take in the Robert Burns country. He was born in Alloway just outside of Ayr. The house is now a museum. One hour's drive will take you to the Trossachs which on a fine day is a a scenic delight. From here you can go onto Stirling and visit its very fine castle. Rob Roy's country is close by. Take a ferry from Gourock over to the island of Bute (Dunoon or Hunter's Quay) and meander up the A885 through the scenic grandeur wildness of Argyleshire to Tarbet. Turn south and this will take you beside the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond . Keep on the A82 and cross the Erskine Bridge(toll) and back on to the M8 towards Greenock and eventual return to Largs. These are relaxing drives and the roads are seldom busy. Glasgow is 50 mins drive from Largs and Edinburgh 1.5 hours.

Other Activities: Ideal for Yachting, Largs Marina 2 Miles

When booking this apartment i was nervous about dealing with a perfect stranger. Was I doing the right thing! Mr Martin made our booking very easy and everything he told me was true.
The apartment was very clean, modern and spacious. We felt very secure staying there. It's quiet, beautifully kept both inside and out, lots of parking and just a lovely short walk to the town. It was more than I expected. The pictures are very accurate. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a place to stay in Largs

Absolutely top notch

The apartment was great, just like the pictures it was really nicely done out, with great facilities and spotlessly clean...really comfortable beds and furniture which is really refreshing in a holiday let! There were some nice touches like a small library of DVDs and books and a great folder with lots of info about the local area.

It's about a 10 minute stroll into the centre of Largs, you can cut across to the sea front within a couple of minutes, and watching the sun set over the islands was just perfect. It helped that we had 4 days of unbroken sunshine of course, but it's a lovely lovely town, and walking in past the boating lake, and along the promenade was something we really enjoyed in the evenings. There's a terrific Italian restaurant (nardini's) which you can't miss due to it's wonderful art deco frontage, and we can highly recommend this, along with their ice cream parlour...we made full use of both!

I'd recommend the apartment and location to anyone, the area and islands are perfect for cycling and walking...we will definitely be back!

Largs Apartment

Review Submitted: July 27, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
*This was a wonderful apartment for our visit home from California- the flat was immaculate and very comfortable- we frequently rent vacation apartments and this was by far the best- good beds, nice sheets, soft towels, good shower, china cups, cable T.V. and really everything we needed was provided including teabags and toiletries.

*The location is spacious and quiet with professional maintenance of the common areas and gardens.

* Parking was easily available at the apartment.

*We were a 5 minute walk to the beach and the promenade which we walked along every day to enjoy the views of the islands and the sea.

* We were a ten minute walk to the ferry to Millport- a fun day out for all of us, including teens.

*We went hillwalking which gave spectacular views as far as Bute, Arran and Jura.( you can also drive to the look out point for the same view!)

*The owner made our arrival and departure very easy .

*Largs is well appointed with lots of small interesting shops as well as a larger supermarket and newsagent. Lovely cafes , ice-cream stalls , bakeries and establishments, mostly independent which give an old-fashioned flavour to the town.
