Farleyer House is the former Dower House for Castle Menzies and sits nestled on a gentle hillside overlooking the green and golden valley of the River Tay and is a wonderful spot for a family holiday, reunion or small wedding. The house was once a luxurious country house hotel and it is the west wing of the property that is available. It retains its excellent furnishings and the bedrooms are exceptionally spacious with wonderful bathrooms The public space is equally well suited to large groups with a large lounge with open fire and a lovely beautiful dining room. There is the bonus of a Media Room complete with 42” plasma TV, surround sound, Sky channels, DVD player and a variety of board and table games for the younger or young at heart members of the party to enjoy. The large kitchen is beautifully equipped with a gas range cooker and a small dining area for breakfasts or childrens’ meals. The enourmous bedrooms are all upstairs and each have their own bathroom.

Aberfeldy is our local historic town. It is the original old market town for Highland Perthshire serving a widely scattered rural population. It is the geographical Heart of Scotland, and an ideal centre for touring. Both Edinburgh and Glasgow are about one and a half hours drive away. The clan chieftains of Menzies, and Campbell, once ruled the area. But latterly families like the Wills of tobacco fame, Sir Donald Currie the shipping magnate, Nairns of the linoleum empire, have lived in the area, and now J K Rowlings of Harry Potter fame, has her holiday home at Killiechassie, 1 mile from Castle Menzies. It is the perfect location to enjoy an active break , a relaxing holiday or a touring vacation of Scotland. Surounded by Mountains, Valleys and History Aberfeldy is the ideal location for all ages.

Family & Friends Get-Away

This is a beautiful house in fantastic surroundings. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with lots of dishes, glasses, plates etc in fact everything that you needed. When we arrived the dining room was set for dinner and there were fresh flowers in every room, which we felt was a lovely personal touch. The bedrooms were all very spacious with lovely big bathrooms. On Sunday, lazing in front of a log fire was perfect as was sitting outside in the hot tub looking over the wonderful countryside. A fantastic weekend was enjoyed by us all and all ready we are planning our return visit.
I would recommend this property to groups of adults. I personally don't feel that this house would be suitable for young children as it took us a while to get our bearings!!! and that was before we started on the wine!!! There is a disabled toilet down stairs but no bedroom!. But all in all a fantastic house for a weekend of partying with friends.

Terrific property and location for family holiday

Farleyer Lodge is terrific for a family holiday. With 9 well-appointed bedrooms, most with en suite bathrooms , the house affords luxurious, clean, comfortable accomodations with plenty of space for privacy and different activities/interests.

The kitchen is wonderfully well appointed and makes it convenient to dine at home ( superb stove, 4 dishwashers, giant refrigerator, plenty of dishes, pans etc ). We did a mixture of dining in and dining out at some of the great local restaurants and hotels.

The grounds are spectacular and terrific for gentle stroll after dinner.

Location of Farleyer made it a great base for exploring and enjoying the many local attractions and activities : we visited St Andrews (90 mins), Blair Atholl Estate for horse-back riding through the forests, Birks of Aberfeldy, went paintballing and drove through the magnificent Glen Lyon to name just a few !!

The owners were very welcoming and immediately available to answer any questions and make suggestions for activities and trips

The house has easy internet access, a plus for our teenagers

I would recommend this house for families or groups of friends who want a comfortable house to serve as a base for a relaxing holiday that mixes being comfortable staying in and enjoying the lovely house accommodations and amenities, with exploring some of the most stunning countryside of Scotland

We had a wonderful holiday and based on our experience I highly recommend a stay at Farleyer Lodge
