The self catering holiday cottage is semi-detached and single storey, set in the magnificent Dumfries and Galloway countryside of Scotland. This 2 bedroomed cottage sleeps 4 comfortably. It is within easy reach of a range of local attractions and some of the most beautiful scenery Scotland has to offer. Castle Douglas, Newton Stewart and Loch Ken are all a sort drive away. Situated on the edge of the Galloway Forest, Scotland in rolling countryside, this former farm cottage has been modernised and extended to a high standard, offering spacious self catering holiday accommodation. Further amenities in the property include colour TV, video, DVD player, stereo/CD player, The Kitchen diner is equipped with: Electric oven and hob, washer/dryer, dishwasher, fridge freezer and microwave oven. Outside there is an enclosed, lawned garden, patio, garden furniture, barbecue, off road parking for 2 cars. One pet welcome. No smoking, please.

Notes: The enclosed lawned garden makes it safe and ideal for children to play with the selection of games , outdoor bowls, rackets with sponge balls and frisbees supplied at the cottage. There are some steps from the backdoor down to the garden area. Security lighting lights your way from the car park area at the bottom of the garden to the house. The stone built shed houses garden seating and barbeque with room for cycles and there is an open porch at the back door with outdoor hooks and welly/boot rack - to hang any really wet or muddy clothes.

Walking and exploring: In Scotland you have a right to ramble any where on the condition that no damage is done, so put on your walking boots and start exploring the stunning Scottish scenery. The Galloway and Mabie forest are close by and there are some spectacular coastal walks within an hour of the cottage. There are several OS maps in the cottage and some with suggested walking routes - with comments by those who have already travelled them. Don't forget your rucksack and flask.

Birdwatching: There's always one pair of binoculars at the cottage to see the birds of prey that nest nearby. Caerlaverock wetland reserve is within easy travelling and many an hour, afternoon or day can be spent there, with their small cafe offering refreshments. From the cottage into Dumfries we spotted 45 different varieties of birds one day, truly amazing.

City breaks: Edinburgh and Glasgow are just over 1 hour away by car or you can catch a train from Dumfries. Both these cities are lively and full of culture, castles and shopping. It's worth taking the tourist bus with audio commentary which tells you the history of the cities - you can then go around again and stop off at places of interest.

refreshing, relaxing and rejuvinating

Our friends recommended this cottage from their own experience and we can see why - wonderful, comfy, relaxing and clean. We explored the surrounding area - Moniaive is a thriving small village with lovely shops, cafe, post office, pubs and art places only a 20 minute walk with the dog. Although the walks got longer the more we talked to neighbours en route. Everyone was so friendly and helpfull with suggestions as to where to visit. The countryside surrounding the cottage was so magnificent we didn't go far - apart from Drumlanrig castle - and Sandyhills beach - Mabie forrest, Galloway forrest and a few other places.
There's a lovely new cherry wood Sleigh bed and deep mattress(not the one shown on the website) in a very large master bedroom with a great dressing table area for the ladies. Will definately be back.
Owner's Response: These are all the reasons we bought in the area and we're so glad you appreciate it.
The cottage used to accomodate 6 people with 4 single beds in the largest bedroom - however we have changed it round so that there is a large master bedroom with a new sleighbed and new mattress and the smaller room as 2 single beds in. New photos will posted asap.

arrived late on sunday night beds had been slept in and all towels had been used i could not contact the owner direct so i did all the cleaning myself , i phoned my husband to send the owner an email about this she did send the cleaner around the next day but this ws too late i left a message with the owner at the cottage to phone me on my mobile, when i returned home i sent two further emails to the owner but no answere . i feel i should receive some money back as i cleand the cottage and stripped and made the beds myself. as she was paid beforhand i wonder why she does not want to talk to me now.

Relaxing break

We had a lovely, relaxing week in beautiful countryside. The surrounding area is great for walking and Moniavie is a very picturesque village. The house had everything we needed and the owners were extremely helpful in providing information before we went. We would definitely return.

New Year in Scotland

For our 6th visit we booked New year - and how wonderful.
With a new master bedroom and the usual high standard of cleanliness and comfort that we now expect. Anne the owner was as helpful as ever. The local pub has been done up and the food is excellent I think it's spelt "Craigdaroch". The tea room is still as cosy with her lovely grub and big BIG cups of cappucino and there's a new gift shop - that does free hot drinks when you walk in. The local grocers has everything from wine and cheese to frozen food, veg, milk, magazines. New Italian has just opened but didn't get chance to go.. it was booked up.
I've booked again for New Year 2009 for the Ceilih.
