Clachan Cottage is located in the beautiful, scenic Scottish Borders. It is located on a quiet farm surrounded by dramatic hills, with a burn flowing through the garden. The cottage has lovely views and is completely private. It is a 5 minute, 1/2 mile walk to the village of Stow down a private drive. Stow has a post office/general store and a great new coffee shop/cafe/gallery. Stow is 25 miles from Edinburgh, and a bus can be taken straight in to the city from here. Galashiels, Lauder, Selkirk, Melrose and other picturesque towns all within 5 - 15 miles. There are many castles & places of historic interest nearby, as well as good beaches; just over an hour's drive. This is the ultimate place for ramblers, mountain bikers, or those who wish to take some good walks with excellent views! You can walk straight from the cottage to numerous trails, short or long. EXCELLENT Mountain Biking park 17 miles away at Glentress, one of best in the UK. Come to Clachan cottage and unwind!

Clachan Cottage is located just outside of Stow, a small village nestled in a valley, 25 miles from Edinburgh. It is a rural hill farming area with great access to Edinburgh up the A7 road. Many towns of historical interest are nearby. The valley is surrounded by dramatic green hills and has amazing views. It is extremely quiet and peaceful -- one can hear the burn outside flowing from inside the cottage. It is a great getaway for families or couples as it is so relaxing, though there are numerous things to do nearby -- historical sightseeing, visits to Edinburgh, visits to the beach or to a nearby spa, etc. One half mile walk down the drive brings you into the village, which has an excellent coffee shop/gallery and a post office/small grocery store. The main artery road to Edinburgh is just a stone's throw from the post office and one can take a bus to Edinburgh from here (1 hour).

| Notes: | Two of the bedrooms have double beds. The third bedroom has a bunk bed with a single bunk above and a double bunk below. This is suitable for three children, or for two adults. The cottage also has a mudroom/side door which is also a washroom. This room is ideal for muddy boots! Parking suitable for 2-3 cars. Good cotton linens and cotton towels included. Child's highchair and cot also available. Children's videos and toys available on request! |
Golfing and Walking nearby
The Torwoodlee Golf course is a 5 mile drive from Clachan Cottage. The Club welcomes visitors. There are numerous walks in the Scottish Borders, many of which can begin directly from the Cottage!
Historical Sites
Within a 10 - 30 minute drive from Clachan Cottage are historical sites such as: Melrose Abbey in Melrose, Thirlestane Castle in Lauder, Gala Aisle and Gala House in Galashiels, Floors Castle in Kelso, Crichton Castle near Path head, and many others. Find a Borders Guide book in the cottage upon your arrival to get some ideas of where to go and what to see. The village of Stow is a half a mile walk down a private driveway. In the village is a GREAT new Coffee shop/Cafe/Art Gallery, which has a small play area for children. There is also a post office/grocery store/newspaper shop in the village. You can also take a bus from the village into Edinburgh, which takes approx. 1 hour.
Mountain Biking
The Glentress Forest, located 17 miles away, (near Peebles) is a haven for mountain biking enthusiasts. It is meant to be the best center in the UK for mountain biking, and potentially the best in Europe. It has an excellent cafe and bike shop which has bike rentals, demonstrations, lessons, events. The paths are designated for bikers or hikers, which makes life easier for everyone. Walkers would also find this place beautiful. The landscape is stunning and it is well worth a trip. The drive down the road from Stow to Thornylee up towards Peebles is one of the prettiest drives in the Borders.
