This Crofters stone cottage is set in beautiful unspoilt Strathoykel ,famous for its salmon river. Situated 15 miles west of Ardgay and Bonar Bridge on the Dornoch Firth, 30 miles east of Ullapool and Lochinver on the west coast, and approx 50 miles south of Scotland's north coast, it is ideally placed for touring the two most northern regions of Scotland, Sutherland and Caithness. Ross & Cromarty lies to the south. It is a place for walking, hill climbing, cycling, bird watching, fishing in the tidal part of the river Oykel and Loch Shin, golfing (at Bonar, Dornoch and Tain), horse riding at Bonar Bridge and Muir of Ord or simply relaxing in the comfort of this charming cottage.

Strathoykel lies between Ullapool on the West Coast and Dornoch on the East Coast. There are many places of interest in the area with waterfalls, forest walks, and salmon leaps. Wester Doune is situated on the south side of the River Oykel. It can be approached from the A837, 1mile west of Rosehall turn left over the Bailley Bridge signposted Inveroykel and Brae. At the top of the hill follow the road to the right towards Brae. The cottage is approximately 1 mile from this junction situated on the right hand side of the road. It can also be reached by taking the road that runs south of the River Oykel/Dornoch Firth at Ardgay. It is approximately 15 miles from Ardgay.

  • A narrow spiral staircase leads to a balconied sleeping platform with twin beds. There is a large foldaway sofa bed (160cm wide) in the sitting room on the ground level. Duvets and Pillows are supplied : 1 double duck feather duvet, 2 single goose feather and down duvets, 2 hollow fibre duvets and 8 pillows. Bed linen and towels are not provided.

Notes: The cottage is heated by electric Dimplex storage heaters. There are also two wood burning stoves, one in the sitting room and one in the kitchen/dining room. Telephone accepts incoming calls only but can be used for emergency numbers. Internet facilities are available at the village shop in Rosehall 2 miles away. The cottage is unsuitable for elderly or infirm guests because of the small compact spiral staircase to the upper sleeping area and is also unsuitable for wheelchairs.

Great place to get away from it all! Two hotels within 2/3 miles good food and good company. Great walks with or without dogs. Cottage was clean and cozy - it had 2 wood burning fires. Plenty wildlife to see including roe and red deer. Would definately recommend it and will return.

This is without doubt the best place you could ever want to stay if you want a solid peaceful holiday.

Don't expect nightclubs, shopping etc. This is a place for relaxation, swith off the mobile, take some good books and your hiking boots and enjoy!

A truly wonderful and relaxing holiday, its ideal for anyone who has a busy life and needs time out away from it all.
The cottage is tastefully decorated and just what you expect for the highlands, it has everything you need a true home fom home.
If your looking for a base to explore the north of scotland you dont have to look much further than here.
A short drive from the cottage you will find the local shop and a hotel (Achness) that serves good food (recommend you try their home made soup). ullapool, and inverness are within a hours drive, with the village of lairg only eight miles away.
Highly recommended. would definately go back.

If you like to be in the central woodlands it is a romote and nice place! If you want to visit the coastal areas, the location of the house is a little far away.
The property is perfect clean and very well serviced and of a very high standard (esp. the kitchen and living room).
I would recommend it!!! The nearby river-walk and the gorge ist fine!

Ein kleines, wundervolles Ferienhaus, dessen Bilder genau zeigen, wie es aussieht.
Unberührte Natur, Weite, Ruhe...ganz viel Nichts und davon jede Menge, mit ein paar hundert Schafen!
Klein aber fein eingerichtet mit allem, was man braucht. Mehr ist nicht notwendig. Sauber und mit Geschmack einfach aber funktionell dekoriert.

Ohne Auto sind gute Füße wichtig, eine Bus- und Bahnverbindung gibt es jedoch mit Abstrichen. Invershin (rd 10 Meilen entfernt) und Lairg (ebenfalls rd. 10 Meilen entfernt) sind die nächsten Bahnhöfe, der Postbus fährt täglich außer Sonntags.
In Rosehall / Inverclassy (rd. 6 Meilen von Doune entfernt) gibt es einen kleinen Laden mit dem notwendigsten Bedarf und einem Cashautomaten
Freundliche, hilfsbereite Menschen als "Nachbarn"...der nächste ist nur 200 m weiter.

Wer Ruhe und Erholung fernab vom Trubel sucht, Natur und Tiere schätzt, wird sich hier zu Hause fühlen.

Wenn es nach mir ginge, wäre ich geblieben!
