Bohinj Chalet is located in the heart of the Triglav National Park close to the shores of Lake Bohinj and 500m from the Vogel ski centre. Nestled in the village of Ukanc on the western edge of Lake Bohinj, Bohinj Chalet is overlooked by the dramatic mountain backdrop of the Julian Alps. You may have seen it featured on Channel 4's 'A Place In the Sun: Home or Away' programme. Bohinj chalet comprises two floors (total 80 sq m) and offers sleeping for a maximum of eight people. Built in the traditional Slovenian style in the 1950’s, Bohinj Chalet offers central heating as well as a traditional Slovenian log burner. The interior is furnished throughout with alpine landscape paintings by local artists. We are fully registered with the Bohinj tourist board and are proud of our official two star rating, which is your assurance of both quality and value for money.

The wooden chalet comprises two floors (total 80 sq m) and offers sleeping for a maximum of eight people. Built in the traditional Slovenian style in the 1950’s, it offers central heating as well as a traditional Slovenian log burner. On the ground floor there is a living area with satellite television, video/DVD, a selection of English language DVDs and a stereo. There is also a bathroom (with bath and shower), adequate kitchen (gas oven and electric hob, fridge freezer) and two double bedrooms. On the top floor there is an additional WC and sleeping for a maximum of four people. All linens and towels included. It is ideal for families. Skis can be stored in the closed porch entrance, and in the summer months a BBQ grill offers alfresco dining in the National Park. There is also a storage area for bikes (please contact us beforehand if usage is desired).

Local Activities in the Area

Lake Bohinj (4.5 km long) is a dramatic glacial lake within Triglav National Park. Ukanc is a small village on the westernmost southern shore and is five minutes drive from the entrance to the lake at Ribcez Laz. Five minutes walk from the chalet is the Zlatorog, which offers a restaurant and a traditional alpine bar. The location is ideal for those interested in outdoor winter (skiing) and summer activities (horse riding, walking, fishing, kayaking, adventure sports) and wish to explore the Julian Alps in a peaceful scenic setting. These can be arranged locally.

The area offers an excellent range of walks to suit all abilities following forest trails or for the more strenuous into the Julian Alps and Triglav. A walk around Lake Bohinj is recommended and should take between 3 and 4 hours. The chalet is also an ideal location for those who wish to explore Bled and the surrounding area (e.g. Vintgar gorge or Pokljuka) but to remain in a peaceful unspoilt setting. There is a bus station at Ukanc with hourly buses to Bled and Ljubljana via Bohinjska Bistrica. Every year on the second Sunday in September, Ukanc hosts the Cow’s Ball (Kravji Bal). Traditionally it marks the return of the cows to the valley after spending the summer on high pasture and offers the visitor an insight in Slovenian folk music and dancing and typical local cuisine. Bonfire Night (Kresna Noc) is celebrated on the Sunday closest to the Feast of the Assumption on the 15th August. Candlelit boats are launched into Lake Bohinj from which there is a firework display.

How To Get There

Ukanc is 26 km north east of Bled and 5 km west of the village Ribcez Laz along the Bohinj lake side road towards the Vodel Ski Centre. Bohinjska Bistrica is 10 km away.

Skiing Information:

For skiing the chalet is ideal. It is 500m distance from the Vogel Ski Centre above Ukanc, and is accessible by cable car. Vogel offers 26 km of ski slopes and cross-country runs. With runs up to 1800 m altitude, the season can last until early May. Vogel is the only ski centre in Slovenia within the Triglav National Park.
