It is seaside home of one of the Cape’s most historically prominent families, La Gratitude offers superb, understated luxury with unsurpassed, uninterrupted views across Walker Bay. Situated just steps away from both secluded coves and a 12 km stretch of pristine beach. The cliff path begins meters from the the house and follows the bay round to Hermanus village. The interior is designed in the simple luxurious elegance of a by-gone age. La Gratitude is about 90 minutes drive from Cape Town, in an easterly direction along the garden route. It is 15 minutes drive from Hermanus village, perched above the famous beaches in the area. Hermanus, has many good restaurants, a ethnic craft market and a good range of shops. The southern most tip of Africa is a few hours drive further along the coast. Fine wines can be tasted at a number of Cape wineries within 30 minutes drive. A huge range of out-door activities are all within easy range. Fernkloof nature reserve with its rich vynbos (indigenous flora) provides excellent hikes into the mountain behind the house. There is a lagoon, on which a range of water sports are to be had, including windsurfing, water skiing and sailing. The cliff path starts meters in front of the house. The best land based whale watching in the world can be had from the cliff path or from the house itself. Hermanus has a popular 18 hole golf course and the Arabella golf estate is 30 mins drive away.

A half day maid service is provided on a daily basis. If you have any extra requirements, we can try and help you get these or put you in touch with local people people such as a driver or tour guide.

Non refundable 50% deposit required to confirm bookings over Christmas and New year. For the rest of the year a 50% deposit is required to make a booking, this deposit becomes nojn-refundable 30 days prior to arrival. Full payment and a R6000 refundable deposit must be made 2 weeks before booking date. The R6000 refundable deposit will be refunded minus any breakages, telephone usage etc within 30 days after departure. No shows and cancellations within 48hrs will be charged the full rate. There is a 2 week minimum booking over Easter and 3 weeks over Christmas or New Year, although other requests will be considered.

Activities
Watch whales breach from La Gratitude's balcony, or walk along the “cliff path” that begins in front of La Gratitude and follows the coast all into Hermanus village, or, in the opposite direction, walk along kilometres of pristine beaches to the lagoon and beyond. There is paragliding off the Olifantberg, vineyards tours that include sampling their wares, and shopping for art and crafts bargains in Market Square . Whatever your energy level, Hermanus offers it all in the sun and “champagne air”. Specific activities include: ARTS and CRAFTS - numerous artist-owned art and craft studios and galleries BEACHES - La Gratitude is situated above and looking out onto Hermanus’ most famous beach, Grotto Beach. As the coastline dotted with coves ends, so Grotto Beach begins, extending past the magnificent lagoon at the mouth of the Klein Rivier all the way to De Kelders. Other beaches include Voelklip, Kammabaai, and Langbaai.
BIRD WATCHING - an ornithologists dream with mountain, coastal, river and estuarine avian habitats DE WET'S HUIS PHOTO MUSEUM - offers a extraordinary photographic documentation of the history and development of the town. DOLPHINS - are often seen in the region. Species include the endemic Heavisides dolphin, Bottlenose dolphin and Common dolphins. EXTREME SPORTS - hang-gliding, paragliding, mountain biking, powerboat racing FERNKLOOF - in the saddle between Lemoenkop and Olifantsberg, Fernkloof Nature Reserve hosts one of the richest floral kingdoms in the world. It has 50 km of hiking trails and a mountain biking track FESTIVALS - the Hawston Sea Festival (December) and the Food & Wine Fair (July) FISHING - with the sea and lagoons full of galjoen, steenbras, kob, red roman, silver fish, red stumpnose, John Brown, and many more, Hermanus attracts fishermen from all over the country.
