GOLF in Pennington
SELBOURNE COUNTRY CLUB - To enjoy a round of golf on a course as beautiful and challenging as here you'd have to travel to the famous Augusta National in Georgia. USA - for it was this concept, combining gracious living with the great game of golf, that inspired Dennis Barker to create the South African equivalent. The course has maintained the fine alliance between challenging the low handicapper and providing the average player with a fulfilling experience. Huge indigenous trees flank the manicured fairways and water comes into play on most of the holes, with all but two having views of the sea. UMDONI PARK GOLF CLUB This 18-hole course situated in Pennington on 200 hectares of indigenous coastal forest is renowned for it's fauna and flora and magnificent vistas. SCOTTBURGH GOLF CLUB This undulating course has a most attractive setting with the sight and sound of the Indian ocean always in the background. All of these courses are only a few minutes drive away.
Recreational Activities
The house is an ideal base for visiting game parks, Hluhluwe Imfolozi being the oldest in Africa and containing the worlds largest concentration of black and white rhinos and where the 'big five' roam free. The St Lucia Wetlands Park is a World Heritage Site. Both are about a 3 hour drive away. Closer to home take a trip to Durban for shopping and shows, and not be be missed, a day out at Ushaka, South Africa's answer to Seaworld in Florida. Fishing, diving, surfing, waterskiing and birdwatching can also be enjoyed. Sardine run: The amazing Sardine Run. Each winter a remarkable phenomenon takes place. The migration of enormous shoals of sardines creates an eruption of activity attracting an abundance of predatory sea life. Twenty thousand common dolphins, five thousand bottlenose dolphins, tens of thousands of gannets and thousands of sharks arrive from all directions to gorge on these tasty morsels. This spectacular event can be seen at Pennington yearly,(usually June-July)
