A lovely 'Castillo' apartment with stunning sea views, built on two floors in the beautiful urbanization of 'La Manzanera'. Our home in winter, the apartment has been totally renovated and fitted with an imported hardwood beech floor through the upper floor area. The apartment is literally a 5 minute walk to the beach and town, with two bar / restaurants within a few hundred metres away. New for April 2008! The apartment has been once more updated with new double glazed floor to ceiling sliding French doors which enhance the fantastic view even more and bring the terrace into the living room. We have bought new furniture, had a new terrace awning installed and more importantly (for my husband certainly...)provided a 32' flat screen TV. There is an air conditioning unit in the main double bedroom which is available for a small extra charge if required. Next year the whole apartment will have air conditioning. In the meantime there are ample fans for warmer days. Quite simply-its lovel

La Manzanera: 'La Manzanera' is without a doubt the most beautiful urbanisation in Calpe. The original buildings, including the Castillos, were designed by world famous architect 'Ricardo Bofill' in the late 1960s, with an abundance of natural stone & bourganvilla. The Castillos are built in small staggered terraces with each apartment having it's own independent roof and private terrace. An easy stroll takes you to the 'old town' with its numerous bars restaurants & shops. Both sandy beaches are clean & safe for bathing. There is easy access to Benidorm & the beautiful Jalon valley. Calpe is the ideal family resort.

Calpe: The spectacular Rock of Ifach, now a nature reserve, soars 332m high and dramatically divides Calpe's two beaches and bustling fishing port and marina. Well preserved Roman and Moorish remains are evidence of Calpe's colourful history. The Old Town with its narrow streets, bars and restaurants is also home to numerous museums. Watersports, tennis, golf, horse-riding, walking and climbing are all at hand, although then again, you could just swim lazily and sunbathe on the beach.........

The Castillo Apartment: Just bring your toothbrush and personal towels. We think we have catered for almost everything else, although we can't claim responsibility for the spectacular sun-rises viewed from the terrace! A semi covered walkway leading to the apartment is ideal for quiet times in the shade. Although only minutes from the hustle and bustle of Calpe and the charming old town, La Manzanera is far removed from the noise and the crowds and is an artist's delight.

Lovely apartment in Calpe

We have stayed at this apartment a number of times over the last few years and twice in 2008 (during July and August with 2 teenagers and as a couple in September).
We always have a wonderful time in Calpe. The beach is an easy walk away and there are plenty of excellent restaurants, also within walking distance.
The apartment is delightful, always well looked after and immaculately clean. It is well equipped and is a comfortable and relaxing place to stay.
There is easy, shaded parking close to the apartment, although a car is not really needed as everything you need for relaxing holiday is close by. The owners, Marilyn and Barry are always very helpful - a delight to deal with.
The view from the apartment is wonderful with sea views across the bay towards the Penon.
I would highly recommend the apartment - we will certainly be back.

We have been so lucky with guests who return to the Castillo and treat it as their home for however long they stay. It is true to say that although we may never meet and our dealings are by phone or email, they feel like friends and for that we thank them.

Great apartment & resort

We stayed in the Castillo for two weeks in March 09.
The apartment is exactly as the pictures portray and is only five minutes’ walk from the old town of Calpe. The actual apartment is upside down, the bedrooms and bathroom are downstairs. There are no windows downstairs, which is great if you want to have a siesta and it also keeps the bedrooms cool in the summer. That does mean though that the bedrooms are bit chilly in the winter.

Upstairs the kitchen had all the utensils you would need to eat in and the living room had enough space to relax and watch the large TV if you wanted too. The TV did have the BBC news channel (interactive worked) and all the Five channels like Five US.

We flew to Alicante and then got the coach from the airport to Benidorm. We then got the FGV (coastal train) to Calpe. The train station is about twenty five minutes’ walk from the apartment, so getting the coach from Benidorm to Calpe would have been easier. If you are going to catch the coach, then get off the main coach station (first stop) in Benidorm. It is possible to travel here without the aid of a car, as you do have the FGV to visit most places along the coast.

We ate at several restaurants in Calpe and most were very good. The best we went too were, Patio de la Fuente (great set menu) & El posit (great tapas and a sun terrace). There are plenty of supermarkets in Calpe and you will not have a problem getting anything unless it is Sunday.

The apartment is in the best part Calpe (old town) and has very good views from the balcony. Everything is very close by, but far enough away that it is still very quiet sat on the balcony. I would recommend the apartment and the resort to my friends & family, so if you have not been to Calpe before it’s well worth a stay.

Owner's Response: Once again we are really pleased with our guest's response to the Castillo. Whilst the layout is upside down, there is a large internal window in the twin bedroom and the double bedroom has an outside door to a paved plant area. More light comes down the stairwell from a large velux above in the living area. We have spent many winters in the apt and the bedrooms with small radiators are in fact very cosy. There is also a gas fire provided for really cold spells. The design of the Castillos is based on the old Spanish principle of keeping houses cool in summer and warm in winter. Honestly it works really well!

Lovely apartment

The property was cleaned & well maintained.Bathroom could be up dated.Balcony suitable for two people, would have benefitted by having sunloungers.We enjoyed the holiday very much and would recommend the apartment to friends.
Owner's Response: The terrace is equipped with a table and four chairs plus two cane chairs. Loungers unfortunately would take up too much space on the terrace when the apt is occupied by four guests. As the new sliding doors now open up the living room to the terrace we hope this is a good compromise. The marble surround to the bathroom basin was damaged by a previous guest and was temporarily fixed between bookings. This will be completely replaced in 2009. All comments are appreciated and any faults will be acted on. It is paramount for us that guests enjoy their holiday and stay in the kind of accommodation we ourselves would like to enjoy.

When they tell you "On the Tin", in the ad, that this Castillo has been: "lovingly restored", they are not exaggerating !! Really, Truly Beautiful, Welcoming, Comfortable, Clean, Restful, Inspiring, and Great Attention to Detail, in all aspects.....Including Very Attentive, and Friendly Customer Service from the Owner about any questions/concerns you may have about your stay there. Great !
This area is one of the best to stay in whilst in Calpe, if not the best, combining the beauty of nature, with architecture in imaginative, almost fantastical... ways. Look up Ricardo Bofil, and La Manzanera online, in saying that, it is a very relaxed spot, and not pretentious, in any way, which makes it all the more special....for obvious reasons... :)
There are all nationalities, and all types, something to see, and do, and eat, and buy, for all tastes, but Calpe remains (as it should) distinctly Spanish....it has not "sold it's soul"....
The Castillo is in Easy Access to the old town, the main town (10-15 walk), the various beaches (15 min walk) and walks along the beach to the Port, and the Penon, but it is also just that little bit "Away From It All" for Magnificent Sea Views, Sunrises, Colours, Light and Sea Air, to really "Escape".... with the doors and windows open wide !!
Wonderful, so looking forward to renting again next year, for certain. Thanks y Gracias !! ;)

Enjoyable Stay in the Castillo

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Castillo. The apartment was clean, spacious, and nicely furnished, and the view from the terrace was fantastic. The complex was quiet and well located for easy access to the town and beaches, although be prepared for an uphill walk back. I would highly recommend the Castillo for a beachside holiday.
Owner's Response: The main street (Gabriel Miro) in Calpe to the old town rises uphill from the beach. There is a circuitous route back to the Castillo which does makes it easier on the way home. However the old town is a fairly level walk and there is also a bar/restaurant at the entrance to La Manzanera and several others a very comfortable stroll away. But even I can't argue that going down hill is a lot more fun than walking up. At least it's a short journey and only the very unfit would find it a problem.
