Local Amenities
A 10 minute walk will bring you to the renowned Villamartin Plaza, with many bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. A further 3 minute walk will bring you to the Villamartin golf course, home of the 1994 Mediterranean Open. You can also hire the tennis courts here. Our favourites are The Clubhouse, La Braseria, Bogeys, Eduardos and Fairways (new owners from January 2005). If you are here in high season use the information brochure in the apartment to phone ahead and book your table. There is also a very good supermarket in the Plaza for most of your daily needs but 5 minutes down the road by car to La Zenia you will find a branch of Consum, a much larger and therefore cheaper alternative for bigger shopping expeditions. Gift shops, boutiques and a high quality Lladro shop are also in the Plaza.
Beaches
The European Community controls all of the t beaches, all of which meet the quality levels for swimming areas. The most prestigious award is the European Clean Water Blue Flag, which means that the beach has achieved an optimum level for swimming and recreational activities. This area is well known for having 94 blue flag beaches, many of which are in and around Torrevieja / La Zenia areas.. If you like fish you can brunch or dine at many of the restaurants in the area. A further local attraction is the Mar Menor (Inland Sea) where you can snorkel, jet ski or enjoy just relaxing in the lovely surroundings. There are pedallos, banana rides, wave runners, wind-surfers etc. all for hire on most of the main beaches.
Golf Information:
As well as Villamartin, which is a championship quality course two other courses are close by, these being Las Ramblas and Campoamar. Each of these courses will both impress and challenge your golf skills and patience. The club house at Campoamor is magnificent, well worth a visit for a drink or a meal, even if you are not a golfer. Within 20 minutes you will also find La Finca golf course which is a well manicured and challenging golf course. Each hole has a specific theme and I am sure will this course will draw you back on a regular basis . The Pedrera family (the owners) are trying to attract a PGA event but rumour has it that the square green and the green in a bowl have been given the thumbs down.
