Lovely villa on private complex with pool in San Juan, Alicante
The house was built in 2004, and is situated within a secure residential complex with communal swimming pool. Alicante Golf runs alongside the complex. The house is arranged over two floors. The first floor has a fully fitted kitchen including microwave and dishwasher, with a small utility area with washing machine. The lounge / diner has a large terrace which over looks the swimming pool. There is also a downstairs toilet. On the second floor, there are three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a double bed, en-suite bathroom, fitted wardrobes and sun terrace. There are two further bedrooms both with twin beds and fitted wardrobes. There is also a family bathroom. The house is fully air-conditioned across both floors. To the front of the house, there is a children's playground and paddle tennis court (cross between squash and tennis). The terrace to the rear overlooks the swimming pool and tranquillity stream (water feature).

Typically Spanish, with the majority of the residents as 'locals'. This is a great area to get away to, for a real insight in to Spanish life. San Juan is a suburb within 5 to 10 minutes of Alicante city centre. One of Spain's most popular spots, and deservedly so, Alicante nestles next to the Costa Blanca. You can find white beaches and a bustling night life. Alicante is the perfect place to party all night long, then kick back and recover on the beach through the day. The complex is situated next to hole 3 of Alicante Golf, a splendid 18 hole Golf Course designed by Severiano Ballesteros. The 6,270 metre course of par 72 requires a different strategic approach to every hole and obliges players to use all clubs. La Playa de San Juan is Alicante's most famous beach. 7km of golden sand stretching along the Mediterranean coast, this one of the best reasons to visit Alicante, and is only 3 minutes drive away. We visited this property in July 2008 with our two children aged 8 and 4. The villa was excellent, it was very well furnished and had access to a lovely pool. The weather was wonderful with two weeks of unbroken sunshine. During the week the complex was very quiet (even though this was peak season) and we often had the pool to ourselves. At the weekend it was busy as the locals were around.
We would strongly recommend a car as you need this to get food, go out in the evening and go to the beach. If you are happy walking 1/2 hour each way you could get to a supermarket but that is a long way in the heat.
We found the immediate area very touristy. San Juan beach is beautiful but incredibly busy during the day. However, it is lovely for a stroll in the evening.
We tended to use the car to visit a bit further afield. We would recommend Guadalest which has amazing views, a lovely castle and quaint shops. Nearby is Fonts de l'algar where you can swim in cool mountain water. Take a picnic. Make sure you drive past the first car parks (which charge) and drive right up the hill to the free parking. This also saves walking up the hill.
We would strongly recommend Aqualandia and Mundomar if you have children. You can get a two-day pass at a reasonable cost and you do not have to go on consecutive days.
The accomodation is lovely and you can easily relax by the pool. The weather is great. If you hire a car there are plenty of interesting places to visit.

The complex itself is indeed very peaceful and you never feel overwhelmed by people. The local beach is at its busiest in August and is at its peak between about 11am - 2pm, when the locals then leave to go home for lunch. After this time it is relatively quiet and you can easily take a position on the shore line. Many people use the beach for strolling in the evening.
The local town of El Campello is beautiful for this in the evenings as there are many restaurants along the sea front and the area is pedestrianised, making it very safe for families and young children.
