From the ancient times the Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans and Moors settled in Javea. Early last century an ancient treasure was discovered at the base of mount Montgo whose peak dominates north westerly view. There is a museum and an ancient defensive tower now converted into a church. Above the town, on top of the hill the turrets of ancient windmills watch over and wait... Not far are the ruins of an ancient hermitage. The local population preserves Spanish culture with folklore bursting into view during fiestas, processions or bull chasing held on any pretext during the year. The local brass bands invariably take part in celebrations filling the air with majestic music fitting the occasion and enhancing the spirit.
