Many people will know L’Escala due to the archaeological treasure that is the Roman settlement of Ampurias, just a short distance outside the town. The wonderfully preserved mosaics which can still be seen are simply beautiful and really make you think.

When you land in Girona Airport, it is well worth taking a few hours exploring the city. It is a hugely elegant city, centred on a magnificently well preserved medieval old town. The massive carnival in May and the September Jazz Festival are particularly good times to discover Girona, although there are enough great restaurants and fashionable shops to keep you engaged at any time of year!
