This is our own family apartment set in a stunning location with panoramic views of the sea, hills and mountains. It is five minutes walk to the beach in a quiet residential neighbourhood but close to shops and restaurants. There are two large pools in the attractive garden plus a paddling pool for toddlers. We regularly use the apartment ourselves giving you the added reassurance that the furnishings and equipment are checked and maintained to a high standard. Our prices are fully inclusive of bed linen, hand and shower towels. Accessible by car, train or plane. From the channel ports using the motorways a comfortable drive of 760 miles. A choice of low cost airlines to Barcelona or a local taxi driver to meet you at nearby Gerona airport. L'ESCALA is situated on the Bay of Rosas 25 miles from city of GERONA and 25 miles from its airport, 90 miles from Barcelona airport. 12 miles from motorway. In the attractive region of Emporda. close to coastal resorts of ROSAS and ESTARTIT. Two miles from the ruins of AMPURIAS site of the Greco/Roman ancient cities- It is situated among pinewoods next to excellent secluded beaches overlooking the Bay of Rosas.The picturesque medieval village of PALS is about 15 miles from L'Escala. It has been tastefully preserved and restored with several good restaurants. The busy town of FIGUERES is about 15 miles from L'Escala where you can visit the world famous Dali Museum. GIRONA is the capital city of the province of Girona and is about 25 miles away. It is a splendid city of exceptional interest with many historic buildings dominated by its magnificent catheedral. Also nearby LA BISBAL is devoted to production of pottery and ceramics. Trips to BARCELONA by train or motorway are feasible.

Notes: The apartment is on the 5th floor. It is secure with entry phone to locked outer door of the apartments. The building has 6 floors served by lift. 505 Els Amarres has a balcony with stunning panoramic views through 180 degrees and terrace furniture for drinks or dining. There is an attractively furnished spacious living room with large dining area - full sized dining table seating six. A comfortable lounge area with sofa bed, armchairs and satellite TV with video facility. In 2005 the bathroom received a complete make over with white suite, tiles and lighting. A large fully equipped separate cooks kitchen with cooker, large fridge, microwave and washing machine. Els Amarres has a lovely garden with two swimming pools plus child’s pool for use of residents. There is a permanent caretaker/gardener. Our local agent is on hand to help and is responsible for maintenance. All Bed linen and hand and shower towels are provided. There is an electric fan.There is ample on street car parking.

L'Escala: It is situated on the beautiful Bay of Rosas. It has evolved from a typical Catalan fishing village but has a quaint old town that has not been destroyed by modern development. There is a resident population of around eight thousand so it is more than just a holiday town. The choices of eating out are unlimited with every taste catered for. Choose from top quality seafood restaurants, tapas bars, pizza houses, cafe bars and burger bars. Ampurias is adjacent to L'Escala and has two miles of tiny bays with sandy beaches fringed with pines and interesting rocky headlands. Here you will find safe bathing for the children, deep rock bathing and diving for the more experienced. If you want a relaxed holiday with no driving, the apartment is ideally situated with its three swimming pools and attractive garden. Port Escala is nearby - a splendid modern marina complex open to all. The large sandy beach and promenade at Riells is 5 minutes walk down the road. BIcycles can be hired nearby.

Sports/Tourist Attractions: The large protected bay of Rosas is ideal for all forms of water sports, including sailing, water skiing, surfing, kite surfing and parascending. There are many fine golf courses, tennis, riding, diving, and snorkelling and deep sea fishing. All are available. Boat trips leave from Escala daily visiting resorts along the coast. There are also glass bottomed boats that will take you to conservation areas by the Medes Isles where you can study the life under the sea face to face. There is a well established Go-Kart circuit in Escala. There are endless places and historic sites to visit. The Greco/Roman ruins of Ampurias, Dali Museum in Figueres or visit local markets. The town of La Bisbal, devoted to the production of the most amazing range of pottery and ceramics. Spectacular coastal drives to Cadaques, Puerto de la Selva, Tossa del Mar and Aigua Blava - all worth visiting. The beautiful city of Girona is only 20 mikes away. You can go by train or car via motorway to Barcelona.

How to get to L'Escala: By Air: e.g. Many British Regional airports have flights to Gerona (Costa Brava) and Barcelona, or Perpignan, Carcassone and Montpelier. Then taxi, train or hired car. By Car: Ferries from Plymouth, Portsmouth, Poole, Weymouth, Newhaven and Dover. Routes through France provided by AA/ RAC. For your convenience: Taxis from Airports or Stations/Bus Stations can be arranged.

I'd spoken to the owner about the apartments suitability for young children and was made aware of the balcony- I decided to go ahead and book (the apartment is on the 5th floor). The apartment was a good size, clean, with a TV (handy for the children) and lots of useful information about the surrounding area. The children also loved the 3 pools and the fact that it was less then a 10 minute walk to a busy but clean and shallow beach with plenty of choices to eat, drink etc. Also two supermarkets within a couple of minutes walk. We would recommend the apartment for those without children or with older children as we didn't feel relaxed having the door to the balcony open with the children around. Finally, well suitated to explore some amazing places throughout Catalonia.

I always offer the opportunity for an informal chat to ensure that the accomodation is suitable and that my renters will be comfortable.It is important both for them and for me that the apartment is appropriate for their particular needs.
We have been happily letting for over 20 years to families with small children. The balcony, which offers spectacular views, has a door that can be secured. We bought the apartment when our own children were small because of the garden, pools and easy walk to safe and sandy beaches.
Catalonia offers something for everyone. Visitors of all ages and nationalities come with and without cars even arriving by train.
The apartment suits all age groups.

A pleasant experience

I thought that this apartment was of a good quality with everything needed for an enjoyable and comfotable stay. It was clean, well equipped and the bathroom had a shower that worked! It was nice to be able to sit out on the balcony and have breakfast (too cold at the time of year that we went to have supper outside - late Sept/Oct). View from balcony was nice. My only disappointment was that the pools were not heated and were, therefore, too cold for swimming.
The local beach at Riells is close by and has good sand for kids and sunbathing. At the time of year that we went a lot of the eating places in Riells were closed for the season. However, the old town provided plenty of scope for food and drink and has a couple of little town beaches. There are excellent beaches at nearby Montgo Bay and at Empurias on the way to St Marti (stroll along the forest trail and have lunch at St Marti - good food, lovely setting!)
We travelled by train and got the bus to L'escala from Figueres. There was no public transport running in L'escala to allow us to go up or down the coast - apparently there should have been a little road train that plies the coast road. We were therefore restricted to places that we could comfortably walk to. I personally feel that a car would have allowed us to make more of the area.
As far as eating places are concerned, the cafe at St Marti and the beach restaurant (1st on the left looking out to sea) at Montgo Bay were by far the best. Mike's in Riells was pleasant - not huge portions but friendly service. There is a small supermarket nearby, as well as a local bread shop and fruit and veg store for eating at the apartment.
All in all, a relaxing break - the resort was very quiet due to the time of year. Locals told us that it was very busy in season.
I found the owner of the property pleasant to deal with and had our stay organised easily.

Fantastic Holiday

My husband and myself together with 3 children stayed at this apartment in July 2006 and it was one of the best holidays we have ever had. We returned from France yesterday enjoyed the holiday, but so regretted not booking this apartment again in spain, but will definately be returning in the near future. The apartment has ample room and well equipped, and found the balcony no problem with our daughter who was 3 years old at the time. Can't recommend this property highly enough.
