Local Villages & Towns:
Tortella is our local village and gateway to the Alta Garroxta. Here you can do some grocery shopping (the fresh baked bread is a treat as is the homemade wine). The village has a laid back sleepy feel with the people very welcoming.
One of the first places you will encounter locally is the medieval village of Besalu. Pass through the porticullis of the bridge and you are instantly transported back in time. You will encounter narrow, winding streets and open squares flanked with buildings that bear witness to Besalu’s distinguished past.
The town of Figueres whose famous son Salvador Dali still appeals to thousands of visitors every year. You can visit the Dali museum where you’ll be offered a unique theatrical experience.
Castellfollit de la Roca is a town which clings dangerously to the side of a cliff. Great for a photo with little drama!
Girona has all the charm of a large city but without the crowds and is well worth a visit.
Activities:
Birdwatching : Catalonia has terrific range of habitats for birds. It has a greater variety of wildlife than anywhere on the peninsular with 95% of Iberia's bird species.
Walking : There are a few walks that run close to Tortella and Can Cruanyes itself and many others a short drive away.
Golfing : The nearest golf course is Torremirona which is only 30 minutes drive away from the accomodation.
Cycling : The region is famed for cycling. Current home to Lance Armstrong says it all!
Horse riding : Horse riding is an activity well loved in Catalonia and can be enjoyed by the entire family locally
Costa Brava:
The visitor wishing to relax on the beach will be spoilt for choice, there are numerous beaches dotted along the coast.
The Costa Brava with its long sandy beaches is less than an hours drive from Can Cruanyes, and its resorts have everything the dedicated sun worshipper could need. St. Pere de Pescadora beach is only 30 minutes drive from Can Cruanyes.
Cadaques is the most charming town on the Costa Brava. This village is located in a natural harbor in the Cap de Creus peninsula. Cadaques is a Summer destination for tourists from all over the world. This village is also well known as an artists destination.
Ski:
Visitors wishing to indulge in winter sports and experience the thrill of the pistes can avail of two ski resorts. resorts: Vallter 2000 and Vall de Nuria. Both are located within 1 hour of the accomodation. This resort can only be reached by a rack-and-pinion train, known as the Cremallera, the last of its kind in Catalonia. This heart stopping journey brings you through the narrow gorges of the region, often leaving you perched between a sheer drop and a precipitous rock-face hanging above you.
Golf:
Can Crunayes is within a 45 min drive of some excellent courses. PGA Golf Catalunya is located just outside Girona. This world famous golf resort hosts a course which is among Europe's best. Also on the outskirts of Girona there is Golf Girona boasting 18 holes, par 72, covering a distance of 6,100 metres. To the north east of Can Cruanyes is the Torremirona Golf course, which has 18 holes, and is a par 72. We also recommend Golf de Pals. All of these golf courses offer club houses where the thirsty golfer can quench his thirst after a round of golf.
