Photos and Description of this Begur holiday villa
Pool temperature maintained at, at least 25ºC April to Oct, 3 Bedrooms, Sleeps 6

Begur is a lovely old medieval town, which has many good restaurants and bars, with many chic boutiques. The villa is in an area of great natural beauty with a large range of leisure pursuits including diving and golf. It is also very popular with walkers and ramblers throughout the year. The villa is on a quiet road leading to the marine reserve of Ses Negres (2 minutes walk) between the beaches of Aiguafreda (10 minutes walk) and Sa Riera (2.3km) and about 5km from Begur. It has wonderful sea and countryside views and is fully furnished with many facilities. It consists of a kitchen, 2 living rooms, a sun room / dining room, 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms (one double and two twins - one of which has an en-suite wetroom and French doors opening on to the shaded outside dining area and sofa). The balcony is accessible from both the main living room and the sun room, both of which have great sea views. The shaded outside dining area has a gas BBQ and is just up from the heated pool (8m x 4m).

The Costa Brava has a rocky coastline, plentiful in coves, secluded beaches and little fishing villages. Both Sa Tuna and Sa Riera are right in the heart of this coast and recognised as being two of the jewels of the Costa Brava, and both are 20 minutes walk along the coastal path from the villa. Aiguafreda is less than 10 minutes walk.

Salvador Dali lived near here in Cadaques, and the Dali Museum in Figueres is only 45 minutes drive.

Both the Cap Roig Botanical Gardens and the Greco-Roman Site of Empuries are worth a visit and and are less than 30 miles away.

Girona is 45 minutes drive, the French border is just over an hour north and Barcelona is 1 hour 40 minutes.

Further details for this holiday villa rental in Begur, Spain

Diving, Walking and Golf: This area really is one of the best areas in Spain for Scuba Diving. I would recommend Gymsub on the road to Aiguablava www.gymsub.com, less than 5 km away. There are closer dive shops but this is run by a PADI Course Director and they have good equipment, experienced and speak English, Spanish, French and German. If you haven't dived before, they can also give you a try dive - it's a great safe place to dive with loads to see. The marine reserve called Ses Negres, is 2 minutes walk from the villa, and is excellent for snorkelling, lots of fish to see in very clear water, but as it is protected, scuba diving is not permitted in this specific location. Please ask us if you have any more questions about this.

The Costa Brava is wild and rugged area with tremendous views and scenery. It has great walks and 370km of marked paths which are maintained by the Baix Emporda Tourism Committee.

There are 9 golf courses in the area including 2 championship courses

How to get here: From the UK, you can get Eurotunnel or a ferry from Dover to Calais. The drive time from Calais is 12 hours. Otherwise, most budget airlines such as EasyJet, Ryanair, BMI baby, Thomson and Jet 2 fly in to the airports of Girona, Perpignan and Barcelona. Girona airport is 45 minutes and the others are less than 2 hours drive.

Any more questions and feedback: We really want you to enjoy your time at our villa and will be more than happy to answer any other questions that you have. After you come back, we would also appreciate any feedback on what you liked (or didn't like) with any suggestions on how we can make your stay with us even better next time.

Other Activities:

The area is superb for diving and only 10 miles from the Medas Islands. There is excellent snorkelling at Ses Negres, just 2 minutes walk.

Second stay!

Review Submitted: May 13, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Last year we had such a good experience with Les Tres Oliveres that we've decided to come back! Something we normally don't do. And it was just as we remembered. A perfect house, not too big, but is has everything you need, with all the comfort and a beautiful garden and terraces. The pool is fantastic and heated, which is an advantage in the beginning of May. Stunning views. A very accomodating and friendly owner and the same for the couple that take an eye on the property. John, Sian we'd love to come back again.
Owner's Response: Hi Ellen, Arthur and kids
thanks very much for another great review and you know that you are welcome back at any time.

You are one of three families who have decided to come back to us this year from 2008. So glad that you enjoyed both the house and the area again.

We are over in Begur next week and can't wait

Thanks Ellen!

Cheers
John

Perfect!

Review Submitted: October 18, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2011
First and for most, John and Sian were so very helpful, pleasant and best of all, prompt when it came to questions about the property and surrounding area.  Top notch service!

The property was absolutely stunning!  Just fantastic!  Our vacation consisted of my husband, myself, our two sons (3 & 2) and my parents.  The villa was very accommodating for everyone's needs and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I suggest bringing your own pillow if you have pillow preference like I do.

We spent a great deal of our evenings cooking in.  A proper evening meal isn't typically served until around 730pm at any given local restaurant.  Tapas (appetizers) are severed at the typical American dinner time and typical English tea time.  This made for dining with the boys difficult.  But cooking in worked out well, with a well stocked kitchen, and it was delightful sitting on the patio overlooking the Mediterranean Sea every evening.

The pool was by far the highlight of the trip for our boys.  We found ourselves sight seeing and adventuring in the morning (markets, Girona, Begur and the beaches) and sipping Sangria and enjoying the pool in the afternoons.  In the evenings after dinner we'd head down the road to the "rocky beach" and let the boys have a go at finding all sorts of fun things.  My husband spent the mornings jogging along the roadways and trails and in the afternoon my folks enjoyed walking along the pathway on the cliffs connecting Aiguafreda and Sa Tuna (starting at the steps at the Vintage Bar).

The welcome booklet is pretty much spot on for all the local things to do - beaches, hiking trails, bars and shops.  All of our questions were answered wonderfully by reading that.

The issue is addressed in the welcome book, but deserves further attention: ANTS! Be very vigilant about tidying up and keeping the inside and patio cleaned.  They're everywhere! Please understand, it's to no fault of the property or John and Sian, just the nature of the area!

Overall, this has been a amazing and wonderful vacation, due mostly to the thought and care John and Sian have put into their beautiful villa. There is a very homely feel to the villa, but you still know you're on vacation!
Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments Becca, and its great that you enjoyed your stay.

The area is great for walking and Sian and I also enjoy running along the tracks around the area. Going north along the coast road, the first 2 miles are a mixture of flat running and hills with stunning views of the sea. Once you get as far as Platja de Pals which is about 2 miles away there are some great trails along the beach and paddy fields which are totally flat, but then who wants to just run on the flat? Sian does!

Catalans do tend to eat later as we found when our kids were younger but there are restaurants open earlier and we will add this information in to the 'Welcome Book'

We replace all of the pillows in the house every year - its just one of those things that we feel is right to do. I guess that if you have a preference to a 'super firm' or 'super soft', you may wish to take your own. Ours are 'middle of the road'.

Ah yes, ants do live in Spanish countryside and they will be looking for food for themselves! You are right - you have to clear up any sticky spillages and tidy up any bits of food that are left around. Its also good to get rid of any rubbish bags and take them to the communal refuse collection bins which are up on the coast road - otherwise they will come an say hello and bring their mates with them.

Thanks again Becca

great holiday

Review Submitted: September 26, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2011
Me and my husband took our 14 month old son and my parents on a weeks holiday to this villa and we all really enjoyed it.
We stayed very local to the villa for the week (as our 14 month old doesn't like car journeys!) and really enjoyed all the local beaches, sights and restaurants.
We have high expectations of cleanliness and quality of where we stay and we weren't disappointed.
The villa was well kitted out, the travel and cot and highchair they have meant we didn't have to bring them with us.
The views were amazing and we spent a lot of our time sitting/playing by the pool.
The owners were always easy to get in contact with when booking/arranging the holiday and they were flexible allowing us an early check-in and a late check-out.
We would definitely recommend this to a friend.

Fantastic Spanish Villa

Review Submitted: September 10, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
We had a wonderful holiday in June with the children aged 9, 7 and 18 months, myself and my husband and my mother and step-father. The villa was lovely. There are spectacular views, lots of different terraces and rooms to enjoy them from, and plenty of space for us all. The kids and I thought the swimming pool was great and it even tempted my mum and step-dad in. There was lots to do near by. We chose to have our holiday while the kids had inset days from school so everywhere was nice and quiet. There are a variety of beaches - pebbly, coarse sand and fine sand. Begur was nice to spend time in. Overall a really memorable holiday. We would recommend it.

The only thing to mention is that if you are not too hot on map reading it might be worth bringing your sat nav to find the area. The sat nav did get a little confused when we got very close to the villa, so the pictures and instructions in the welcome pack really came in handy.

Also if travelling by Ryan Air from Bristol as we did, allow masses of time at Bristol airport. It took an hour and a half to drop our bags off (we had already checked in on line)!!! We nearly missed our flight and had to run.

My middle daughter really wants to let you know the toddler threw her hat in the pool & it got very soggy (we did remove it though).
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Families with Young Children
Owner's Response: Hi Sophie
thanks of your feedback

I agree with your satnav comments - ours sometimes gets us lost too, down by the small coastal road between Sa Riera and Aiguafreda - the further you get from the busy areas , the more you need to rely on good old fashioned written directions!

And as for the hat Eve, yes, the pool water does make them soggy!

Come and stay with us again any time

Kindest regards
John

A most memorable vacation

Review Submitted: August 3, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
We had a wonderful 2 week vacation at “Les Tres Olivares”. John & Sian were wonderful before and during our trip and can answer any questions you may have. We had 3 generations with us (3 grandparents, my wife & I, and our 2 girls, ages 7 & 5) and everyone agreed it was one of the best vacations they’ve ever had.
The villa was perfect; a quiet location, close to the walking path, convenient to beaches and old town Begur, stunning views of the Med. Only issue we had were sporadic minor incursions of tiny ants. They were harmless and just part of being in Spain,a blast of “Zum”, problem solved. The WiFi a welcome addition. Nice book collection too. Pool was great and crucial if you have kids.
A 5 minute walk to the Camino de Ronda from where you could hike along the coast. Beautiful scenery and a good workout too. At trailhead is Vintage Bar. Food OK but, really are coming here for great view. Perched on a cliff overlooking the Med, is a fantastic place to sneak off with the wife to have a glass of wine and watch the sunset.
Beaches: Sa Tuna – closest beach and walkable. We didn’t care for it much; very rocky and small. Don’t go to Sa Tuna Restaurant, over-priced and below avg. meal. Sa Riera – Our favorite beach; wide and deep, sandier than most, not too crowded either. Close by but, should drive.Waves perfect size for little kids. Playa El Raco (in Pals) – 2nd favorite beach; good restaurants right on the beach. Bigger waves than most. Pals beach –Hard to find and designed primarily for the use by condo owners on the beach. No amenities at all. Didn't stay. LLafranc beach – 20 mins. south. Larger than most, liked the promenade and restaurants but, beach a bit dirty and extremely crowded.
Old town Begur is quaint, has many shops, restaurants. Market day (Wed.) a lot of fun. Our favorite restaurant was La Pizzetta, excellent food at a reasonable price.
If going further afield, our take: Figueres – Dali museum was impressive and great little restaurant nearby “Los Angeles”. Barcelona – About 2 hr drive but, worth trip if planned well. Recommend Sagrada Familia, Parc de la Ciutadella, Cosmo Caixa. La Rambla overrated. Cathar Castles (France) – 2 hr drive but, incredible history and scenery. Peyrepertuse and Queribus, amazing! Roses – heard old town was very quaint but, tourist trap and beach very overbuilt. Not worth spending a day to go visit.
In sum, a terrific villa in great location. Unhesitatingly recommend it.
