'Sundowners' is a private two bedroom, one shower room apartment which occupies the upper floor of the owners refurbished farmhouse in an intensive fruit and vegetable growing area. Nestled in a valley at the base of a mountain it makes a good base for bird-watching, walking, cycling and many other outdoor activities. It is also well situated as a base from which to view properties for sale in this interesting authentically rural Spanish area.The private swimming pool is available for daily use although local beaches are only ten minutes drive. The flat is completely fitted out for self catering, all linen and towels are provided. A number of additional items and facilities (e.g. books, board games and videos)are also provided at no extra cost. Full details on request.

The property is three minutes walk from a typical white mountain village in an intensive fruit and vegetable growing region. It nestles below a mountain in the contraviesa range yet it is only 10 minutes drive from the sea. The climate is mild in winter and hot in summer. The village is visited daily by bread men and less frequently by a fish man and a fruit and veg man. The nearest small grocery shops (minimarkets) are located in the coastal fishing village of Castell de Ferro (three miles) which also has a municipal fish, meat, fruit and veg market. Castell also has a number of bars, restaurants, banks and a range of general shops. For more choice and a wider range of shops, including a large supermarket, the nearby market town of Motril is only 30 minutes drive.

  • In light of the current financial climate we are rolling back our rates to 2006 levels. In addition we offer reductions of 10% for retired persons on all advertised rates (please advise when booking), reductions for extended rentals (four weeks or more) subject to negotiation. Offers are not cumulative.
    For the summer season bookings must be a minimum of one week Saturday to Saturday.
  • A non-refundable deposit of €150 is required to confirm and secure booking. Balance must be paid in full 4 weeks before start of rental. Please note that our rates are shown in euros but that we accept payment in sterling at an exchange rate agreed by us at the time of booking; therefore for all payments we accept British pounds transferred to our UK account (please ring or email for details).

Notes: Although this is an apartment the accommodation is NOT in a block of flats but is part of the owners modernized farmhouse in the foothills of the Contraviesa mountains with a private pool which the owners use occasionally. The pool is approximately 7 by 4 meters and at its deepest 1.5 meters (therefore unsuitable for diving! ) it also has a small, very shallow paddling pool at one end for toddlers and aged persons wishing to paddle. In the summer the pool is between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius but it is significantly cooler in the winter months; essentially only for the very brave and polar bears between late October and March. Please note that the owners have a number of cats, egg-laying hens, fifteen doves at last count, an aviary with lovebirds, six small, and one big, friendly dogs and that a herd of goats passes most days. A lot of extras (eg videos, DVDs, paperbacks) are provided at no extra charge for visitors use in the flat. Contact for details.

The Apartment: The apartment has been recently modernised to provide a private, fully fitted, self catering facility for a family of four or four good friends. In addition, and free of charge, we provide cot, high-chair etc for a young child. It is located entirely and separately on the upper floor of the owners Andalucian farmhouse with its own separate lockable access. The main door from the lounge opens onto a sunny verandah next to the swimming pool and gardens with a breathtaking view of the nearby mountain.

The Area: Situated near a typical small white Andalucian village in an intensive fruit and vegetable farming valley at the foot of the Contraviesa mountains. The village has a church and a small bar which traditionally serves tapas with beer and wine. Within easy reach of the market town of Motril with all the normal facilities of a small town. A few miles further along the coast is the delightful holiday resort of Almuñecar with its popular Friday market and water park (July-mid September). Activities include hill-walking, bird-watching or just relaxing on one of the many local beaches and swimming in the bright blue Mediterranean. Historic Granada with the famous Alhambra palace is only 90 minutes drive away.

This year we are offering, free of charge, up to three hours of Spanish language tuition at a level to suit guests. This can be anything from basic greetings, ordering food and drink or a hotel room to a higher level for those that require it. These informal sessions will take place on the guests or owners verandah accompanied by a glass of wine.
