The House::
The house is a converted village mill with massive walls and beamed ceilings. It is designed for both summer and winter living. For the summer, when much of the time is spent outside, on the ground floor there is a quiet, cool TV/ games room with two sofa beds next to a fully equipped kitchen leading onto a partially shaded patio over-looking the garden and the pool. When it is too chilly to have dinner outside there is a second fully equipped kitchen on the 'mirador' top floor with a dining area with views up the mountain, a fire-place and two separate sitting areas. One of these has a small balcony from which you can watch the sun set across the valley.
Things to do::
The Sea: The dual carriageway road from Granada to the sea at Motril is 10 minutes drive from the house. Journey time to the sea about half an hour. Going west there are good beaches at Salobrena, and Nerja.
The Alpujarra: A series of small high villages living off streams on the south side of the mountain. This is `South from Granada` and `Driving over Lemons` country. Both books (and lots of maps) are in the house. Great walking and riding country. 10 minutes walk below the house is the Beznar irrigation reservoir with a great variety of bird life
There is excellent walking just about everywhere: above Bubion in the Alpujarra; the west side of the Lecrin valley which you can see from the house; and just walking from the house across the Torrente (dry in the summer) through the olive groves to Murchas.
The Lecrin valley and surrounding villages have a good choice of restaurants. There are two at opposite ends of the village, both within 5 minutes walk from the house
The Alhambra::
Everybody visits the Alhambra with its fountains, gardens and beautiful cool buildings at least once. The Alhambra has a system of timed entrances to reduce congestion at peak times. Booking in advance is essential. Telephone: 0034 902 441 221. There is good on line booking from abroad but you may have to call us for their address because this website will not show another web address.
Ski:
The house was restored by the owners as a summer home where they could ski in the winter. The Sol-y-Nieve ski area covers a wide open valley below Mulhacen, the top peak of the Sierra Nevada, with about 3000ft of vertical fall from 11000-8000 feet. With the new road from Granada driving time to the car park at the foot of the lifts is reduced to 45 minutes. Skiing is best in February-March when one can enjoy the sunshine to the full. Week ends are very crowded.
In very hot weather it`s worth driving up to picnic in the cool at 8000 feet
Golf:
There is an 18 hole golf course half-way between Melegis and Granada and a 9 hole course along side the shore at Motril. Details are in the information book in the house.
