Step inside from the street on a journey through the restoration, in Moroccan style, of two houses. Casa Larga is a large & comfortable home with surprises around every corner. On the ground floor is a dining room, family room, kitchen, cloakroom & spacious sitting room. A veranda overlooks terraces & pool surrounded by trees and shrubs set in a traditional walled huerto of orange trees. On the first floor are 2 double bedrooms (both en-suite), 1 single & 1 bunk bedroom & bathroom. There are magnificent views over the Lecrin Valley. Next door, Larguita, is a smaller, traditional village home, retaining original spaces & 2 staircases. On the ground floor are 2 sitting rooms, kitchen, utility room, cloakroom & private courtyard. On the first floor the master bedroom (en-suite) has access to a small roof terrace with mountain views. There is a second double bedroom, a bunk bedroom & shared shower room. Larguita does not have access to pool & garden unless rented together with Larga.

Melegís nestles beside the Rio Torrente at an altitude of 500 metres halfway between Granada and the beaches of the Costa Tropical. It is cooler than the coastal regions in the summer and yet frost free in the winter. The cultivated huertos and terraces are crossed by many tracks for superb pre or after dinner strolls. Melegís has its roots in Moorish Spain and its wider streets and scattering of large properties indicates its wealthy origins. Like all local villages, houses are hidden behind plain white walled facades, offering only tantalizing glimpses of courtyards and interiors. In the cool of the evening, families walk the orange groves, children play in the streets and the village comes alive. And of course there are the fiestas! Granada and the historic Alhambra palace-citadel (booking essential) is just a 30 minute drive away. There are many more architectural jewels and specialist shops to be found throughout the city and in the old Moorish quarter, the Albaycín.

  • If Casa Larga & Casa Larguita are rented together as a unit, there is a discount on the overall weekly rate. High Season is 1,796, Mid Season is 1,472 and Low Season is 1,395 Euros; Chistmas & Easter is 1,652 Euros. Heating in Mid Season is an additional 160 Euros per week..
  • Bookings and enquiries can be made with the owners either by phone, fax or email. Once you decide to go ahead and make a booking, we will pass your booking to our agent in Melegís who will process the payment and provide the on-the-ground support for our guests. We ask for 25% at the time of booking with the balance 6 weeks before the commencement date. All payments are processed in Euros. Cancellation charges apply.

  • The master bedroom is large and has unforgettable views overlooking the valley and the forested sierras beyond. The en suite shower room has a large shower is tiled with colourful, hand-made Moorish tiles from the Alpujarras. The furnishings have been carefully chosen and are a mix of antique and modern, in keeping with the history of Casa Larga. Next to the master bedroom is a dressing room with 2 built-in bunk beds that doubles up as a bedroom for children. The front bedroom has its own dressing room and shower room and is furnished with an antique Spanish brass bed. The single bedroom is original and retains an old curved fireplace (not used!). Access to the bedrooms is from the first floor landing with a small internal balcony and an outside terrace.

Melegís: Lifestyle in Melegís is typical of this region. During the day, traders come and go in vans selling everything from fresh fish to slippers. The bustle of trading activity and shrill conversation every morning contrasts sharply with siesta time on a summer’s afternoon when the streets are as silent as a Clint Eastwood film set; piercing blue skies, dazzling white houses shut up against the sun, no one around but the dogs sleeping in what passes for shade. In order to safeguard our clients, we have registered both houses as Alojamientos Rurales with the Junto Andalucia in order to receive a licence to rent the properties. This process involved detailed inspection by local government officials with regard to suitability, health & safety, facilities and layout. Our aim is to support the local economy and infrastructure which means using local suppliers and professional services as well as being compliant with local, fiscal regulations.

Walking: As mentioned before, the immediate local area is criss-crossed with tracks that service the orange orchards. These offer excellent opportunities for evening strolls and not-too-difficult walks down to the lake and neighbouring villages. For the more adventurous walker on holiday in Andalusia, there are many footpaths in the Lecrin Valley from Melegis, Restabal, Saleres and Albuñuelas down into and across gorges, through fertile valleys and up mountainsides (i.e. Monte Giralda at 1,431 metres, the highest in the range to the South). Travelling by car the North East, there is trekking in the lower and high Sierras. To the East lies the much reported region of the Alpujarras; a long valley with scattered white villages strung out across the foothills of the towering Sierra Nevada mountains. The Alpujarran villages and towns offer endless days of exploration, sightseeing and walking and include busy towns like the spa town of Lanjaron as well as rustic villages off the beaten track.

Sol y Nieve is the Granada ski resort located in the high sierras to the East of Granada. The resort has a record for good snow all winter due to the altitude, with the best skiing during February & March. Anecdotally, one can ski in the morning then drive down to the coast and sunbathe on the beach in the afternoon! The ski village is around 45 minutes drive. The beaches of Costa Tropical are 30 minutes drive from Melegís. To the West, there are many popular beaches, some of which like Salobreña and Nerja, have interesting towns to explore. Marina Del Este also offers a range of scuba-diving activities including courses. Alongside the larger beaches, are many smaller beaches that are popular with local families and offer more natural surroundings.
