Casa Barbara is a recently renovated village house, with beamed ceilings throughout. Off the ground floor entrance hall, there are two bedrooms plus a winter sitting room with wood-burning stove. Upstairs is a fully fitted kitchen with dining area; and a large airy sitting room opening on to the balcony. Above is a spacious roof terrace with views over the village and beyond to the mountains. The house is centrally situated in the rural village of Pinos del Valle, a few minutes walk from a bakery, bank, pharmacy, several shops and the Bar Venecia on the main street. There are many local walks in the area, and around the nearby lake, which lies in the centre of the valley. The historic Moorish capital of Granada is 25 minutes away; Seville and Cordoba are 2 and a half hours away and worth an overnight stay; the coast is 25 minutes due south; the snow in the mountains (spectacular in winter months) is accessible in under an hour.

Experience real Spain! Pinos del Valle is a small traditional rural village in the Lecrin Valley, situated at the southern end of Beznar lake, about 8 minutes from the Granada-Motril dual carriage-way, and about 25 minutes drive from the ancient fabulous Moorish capital of Granada. The coast, to the south, can also be reached in 25 minutes, while the Sierra Nevada ski slopes south-east of Granada are about an hour away. The tourist villages of the Alpujarras Mountains are less than an hour's drive and the highest road in Europe (to Treveles) can be reached - unless you prefer to linger in the picturesque villages of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira. Here there are innumerable opportunities to browse among the many small shops selling local crafts and produce: rugs galore, fig-cake, meringues with almonds, local wine, honey, cosmetic produce, jewellery, leather moccasins and sandals etc; plus several workshops to explore. There are also plenty of cafes and restaurants.

Valle de Lecrin: This is a beautiful unspoilt and undiscovered area with its own microclimate. Orange and lemon groves abound, and almond trees blossom from February, jasmine flowers in summer. The climate is warm in the daytime all year round, but nights can be cold from November to March, with possible rain in October (necessary for the olive harvest). You could swim at the coast in the morning, and ski in the afternoon. There is a series of 12 local walks of varying length and difficulty - details in the house.

Activities: Excellent swimming pool with cafe in Lecrin, 3km away. Ski resort is approx. an hour away.

Places to see: The historic Moorish capital of Granada is 25 minutes away; Seville and Cordoba are each 2 and a half hours away and worth an overnight stay; the coast is 25 minutes due south; Sierra Nevada and Alpujarras can be reached in under an hour; ski slope and winter sports in an hour.

Other Activities: Golf; snow sports available in about an hour's drive

Having really enjoyed our stay in Casa Barbara in the summer of 2007 we decided to return to treat my mother for her 70th birthday. We all had a fantastic week with great weather. Casa Barbara is in a great location and is decorated and maintained to a high standard. We can't wait to return again and can definitely recommend it.

Excellent base for exploring the area

A lovely little house in a lovely area, with an exceptionally helpful owner. The house is well-located in the midst of a totally unspoilt, and very Spanish, village and provided the perfect base for a relaxing holiday exploring this area of Andalucia. The house is beautifully and thoughtfully appointed and there are copious notes on what to do/see and where to buy anything you might need. Barbara was extremely helpful before we left, as was the local house manager - although we didn't need her for anything! The village is ideally situated between Granada and the coast, with easy access into the mountains of the Sierra Nevada and the Alpujarra. There are shops in the village providing for all basic needs, and a friendly bar around the corner for drinks and tapas. It was just what we needed and we would certainly go again.

Fifteen lovely days in Pinos Easter holiday 2008. Very nice house. Loved the Spanish style, the airy living room, the lower terrace; all of it. Nicely renovated and very well equipped. Clean and tidy, and very easy to keep that way. We also fell in love with the village. Relaxed atmosphere and a wonderful view. Had sun all day, every day. If we decide to take another holiday in this area of Spain, this house will probably be our first choice.
