There is a large roof terrace partly shaded by a pergola which is ideal for sunbathing and enjoying the views over the nearby citrus orchards and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada or for star gazing in the warm evenings.

Pinos

Pinos is a traditional working village and the pace of life is slow. There are 3 bars, a bank, 2 chemists, bakery and 3 grocery shops and all necessities can be bought in the village. Bread and fish vans call daily to the street and announce themselves by tooting. An interesting walk is the 45 minutes to the shrine which is perched high above the village and has wonderful panoramic views over the valley. Hard going but worth it when you get there! Available in the house is a series of further local walks in surrounding villages, local information and a good selection of videos, c.d's, books and board games.

The Lecrin Valley

There are several small villages scattered throughout the valley with some good restaurants, the nearest being 10 minutes away in Lecrin where there is also a good public swimming pool and small supermarkets. The area is excellent for walking and the GR7 footpath into the Alpujarras starts nearby. 15 minutes away is the spa town of Lanjaron with bars/restaurants and shops. This is also the gateway to the spectacular scenery and mountain villages of the Alpujarras.

Further information

It is a 30 minute drive to the city of Granada with it's Moorish Albaicin quarter and the fabulous World Heritage site of the Alhambra Palace and Generalife gardens, which are a must!. It is an easy 30 minutes drive to the coast and the beaches of the Costa Tropical, ranging from the tourist resort of Nerja in the west to the quiet fishing village of Castell de Ferro in the east. The Sierra Nevada is very accessible (within an hours drive from the house) for skiing and snowboarding in season. More recently golf clubs have opened in Granada and Motril on the coast. With the introduction of flights into Granada Airport, Casa Abuela is now even more accessible, as the drive from the airport to the village is only a half an hour or so.
