Charming house in the old town; incredible views; near beach, bars, shops ...
Casa Piedra is the only house in the old town with its own swimming pool. It is a unique architect designed property, built in the late 1960's and located high in the old town of Salobreña. There is nothing to compare - ALL other similar properties are located out of town - a car drive away from all the many amenities which Salobreña has to offer. Although there are houses all around, Casa Piedra is very spacious and private, set in its own hillside garden with a large tear drop swimming pool, avocado and palm trees, several terraces and abundant tropical shrubs and plants. The views are spectacular. In one direction you see Las Alpujarras (foothills of the Sierra Nevada) and in the other you look down to the shimmering waters of the Med and Salobreña beach. It will take you 12 minutes to walk down to the beach - much less to local bars and restaurants in the old town. For further description and more photos please contact us for our web site address.

Welcome to the Costa Tropical! Salobreña is on the coast about 1 hour and 15 minutes east of Malaga airport and just 45 minutes south of Granada. This is the real Spain with no high rise development and no glitzy night life - just restaurants, tapas bars, 4kms of beaches, perhaps the odd disco and very friendly local people. The old town of Salobreña, once a Moorish stronghold was built on an imposing outcrop of rock visible from miles around; perched on the top of the hill and dominating the town from 105 metres above sea level are the 10th century castle and 16th century church. This is the 'casco antiguo', a maze of narrow roadways, white-washed houses, alleys and steep staircases. Here, all a stone's throw from Casa Piedra, you will discover the old town square with its hidden tapas bars, wonderful restaurants and a few quaint shops locked in their own time warp.

The Swimming Pool and Garden
The swimming pool was completely refurbished for 2005. It has a maximum dimension of approx 9 metres and is approached down a small flight of steps. The depth ranges from approx 4'9' to 5'9' - there is no shallow end although the steps down allow the possibility of a gentle immersion if required. Gates, as a deterrent for small children, are installed around the house in strategic locations to fence off the swimming pool and open spaces. The house has six terrace areas with masses of pot plants. At the front door there is a cool shady terrace which looks out to the mountains and valley towards Motril. Above the garage there is a terrace for table tennis or sun bathing. Outside the lounge there is a pretty sun terrace. Below the swimming pool there is a shady terrace for barbecues and from which there are views to the town and out to sea. There is a double hammock on this terrace for siestas. The dining terrace and upstairs sun terrace are described above.

An absolute delight

Review Submitted: May 14, 2008, Date of stay: January, 2008
Casa Piedra is an absolute delight, set high up in the charming old town with marvellous views. It is approached via narrow streets and a series of tight bends, so a small car is preferable. There is no problem with parking by the house, which also has a garage.
The house itself is very comfortable and spacious inside and with a number of outside terraces so, while it provides a great space for convivial living, there is never any question of being unable to find a quiet corner in which to read or write or paint. The garden is lovely and, although we didn’t venture into it (we were there in January), the swimming pool immaculate.
Three of the bedrooms overlook the sea and the bathrooms are modern and well maintained. For those who want to cook for themselves, there's a well-equipped kitchen and two large dining tables – one inside and one outside. For others, whose idea of a holiday is never to go near a cooker, there are umpteen restaurants, of all kinds, in town and along the sea-front. The owners provide recommendations on restaurants and bars etc. (including comments from recent visitors) and there is a large folder which is full of useful information about the house, the town, the area…..
Casa Piedra doesn’t feel like a ‘holiday let’. It’s a much-loved home.
Owner's response:
It is great that out of season holidays can be so successful. (Our swimming pool maintenance man, Emelio, thinks that November is frequently one of the best months of the year for fine weather.) Additionally, because of our location in a secluded part of the old town, if the weather does become less friendly, it is always easy to get to the local bars and restaurants. No other villa in Salobreña of our type is so well located.
