Local area:
Mojacar Pueblo is an enchanting Moorish village, nestled between the Mediterranean and the Sierra Cabrera mountains, with narrow winding streets of whitewashed houses opening out into small Plazas. Our apartment is an ideal base from which to explore the real Andalucia, the countryside and surrounding villages have altered very little over the centuries. Mojacar's beautiful beachfront is over 6 kilometres long. Browse for bargains in the colourful local markets. A regular bus service runs along the Playa and to Mojacar Pueblo, but to fully appreciate the surrounding area and amenities a car is recommended.
Markets at Garrucha on Fridays and Vera on Saturday are highly recommended.
Many excellent restaurants of all nationalities are within easy reach locally and in the surrounding areas, you can dine on many different countries cuisine during your stay ! Food lovers will be spoilt for choice !!
Recreational:
Golf: The area boasts four challenging courses. The par 72 Marina de la Torre. Europe's first desert course, the par 72 Desert Springs, within 20 minutes, Valle del Este, par 71 and Cortijo Grande a nine hole course set below mountains.
Fishing: Why not join the locals sea-fishing from the beach.
Walking: Many good walks are available locally. The Cabo de Gata national park is within a 15 minute drive.
Water sports: Windsurfing, Sailing and Scuba Diving are available on Mojacar Beach - further down the Playa.
Cycling: Bike hire is available locally.
Market Days: Monday - Huercal Overa and Antas, Tuesday - Cuevas, Albox, Almeria, Los Gallardos, Wednesday - Mojacar Pueblo, Bedar, Lubrin, Thursday - Cuevas, Lorca, Carboneras, Sorbas, Olula del Rio, Friday - Garrucha, Turre, Zurgena, P.Lumbreras, Saturday - Vera, Aguilas, Sunday - Villaricos, Vicar (+ on Sundays there is a Rastro (car boot type market) in Mojacar Pueblo.
Out and About:
There is an Aqua Park at Vera easily accessed by local bus or car approx 10 minutes away. Granada with it's impressive Alhambra Palace is 2 hours away by car. Mini Hollywood/Texas Hollywood where many ‘spaghetti westerns’ and Lawrence of Arabia were filmed, is approx one hour by car. Almeria City has two hypermarkets, 55 minutes by car. Alicante and Murcia cities are approx 2 hours away.
Airports; Almeria Airport is approx 45 minutes away by car. Murcia airport is approx 90 mins away by car. Alicante airport is 2 hours away by car. Car hire is relatively inexpensive and can easily be booked via the Internet prior to your departure, in readiness for collection immediately upon your arrival at your chosen airport, or can be hired for any number of days locally in Mojacar.
Collection / transport from and to an airport of your choice can be arranged if required.
