Mojacar Pueblo:
Mojacar is truly unique. This dazzling white hilltop pueblo, or village, overlooking the Mediterranean and backed by the peaks of the Sierra Cabrera mountains has a history that can be traced back to 2000 BC. Old Moorish dwellings clustered together, overlooking the steep narrow alleyways draped in Bougainvillea, with clumps of geraniums bursting from hidden patios. The local women doing the washing in the public fountain create an impression that has provoked this village to be called the 'corner of enchantment'. Yet concealed within this archaic maze is a cosmopolitan world of shops, art galleries, bars, restaurants and banks contriving to mix a perfect blend of ancient and modem. When you get here, you will feel safe. The genie who upholds a rainbow from both ends protects its owner from storms and cataclysms of nature. The origin of the symbol goes back to the prehistory of the region. Today it is immediately recognised as the symbol of Almeria and, in particular of Mojacar.
The Playa:
The very different world of Mojacar Playa just a couple of miles below the village has all the facilities of a modem beach resort with miles of sand and numerous beach bars, discos and shops. But with the advantage of no high rise building to obstruct the beautiful sea and mountain views. For those looking for something more energetic than basking on the beach or floating on the shimmering blue Mediterranean, all manner of water sports can be enjoyed including windsurfing and sailing. Peace and seclusion though are not very far away, for just a mile or so past the Hotel Indalo are Tower Beach and Treasure Island Cove, both popular with naturists.
