Outside:
The cottage has a private swimming pool enclosed in a walled terraced garden, edged with various trees and plants including Bougainvillea, Jasmine and orange, lemon and palm trees. This secluded terrace has a large table and 8 chairs, a large umbrella, sun-loungers and a barbeque. There are numerous outside lights and the pool is lit up at night. Perfect for the long balmy evenings. There is also an outside sink and shower and an outhouse with a toilet, butler sink, washing machine, and another fridge/freezer to chill drinks. The sun-lounger cushions are stored in here and there are some pool and beach toys that guests are welcome to use. The cottage also has a large upper terrace with table and chairs with steps leading down to the pool.
Close to the cottage is a ruined mosque, originally built on the site of a Roman temple. Opposite the mosque is the entrance to the Rambla. This is the start of a very pleasant walk, past the old mill, to the “Hidden Valley”
Places of Interest:
Whilst Mojacar Playa provides lots of facilities for an enjoyable day out on the beach and a bustling nightlife, the drive in both directions away from the resort opens up all kinds of other possibilities. At the neighbouring old fishing port and marina at Garrucha the boats arrive home each afternoon with their daily catch sold in the local market. This is an ideal place to have that special fresh fish or seafood meal. In the other direction, beyond the next resort along the coast at Carboneras, you arrive in the Cabo de Gata natural park. The drive along the coastal road through the twists and turns of the mountains offers spectacular scenery along the way. For golf enthusiasts there are courses within easy reach at Cortijo Grande and Valle del Este and for the children an Aqua park at Vera playa and Karting track at Garrucha. Whatever your interests, the region offers something for everyone to enjoy a memorable holiday in the sun.
Wildlife and Landscape:
Serena is a nature lovers paradise. If you enjoy unrestricted countryside walks with flora and fauna, then you will soon recognise this is an exceptional place by any standards. In the past year some 70 species of birds have been seen including the golden eagle. The hills are covered with rosemary, thyme,lavender and fennel. Bougainvillea is in abundance with various shades of vibrant colours and blue plumbago and bird of paradise. Iberian fox,ibex,and wild boar, are seen in the area.
The landscape of Almeria’s coastline offers a tour of beaches, coves and rocky outcrops, with alluring old fishing villages steeped in tradition and history. Driving along the coastal roads provides spectacular scenery with contrasting beaches, protected areas of natural beauty in the Cabo de Gata and some very impressive mountain ranges and colourful rock formations. The nearest beaches at Mojacar are extensive offering lots of opportunities for lazy days in the sun sampling local food and hospitality
