Getting There: The closest and most convenient airports are Almeria, Murcia and Alicante - a good choice of airlines fly here from the UK (flying time just over two hours). You can hire cars very cheaply and easily (we can recommend a few companies - try CarJet.com)) from Almeria airport and it's a short, very easy 45 minute drive to the resort along the E15 motorway. A car is recommended, to be able to really get the most out of your stay, but if you just want a few rounds of golf and to visit the Beach Club once-in-a-while, it is not absolutely essential. The resort is also extremely accessible from Alicante - a very easy and direct 2 hour drive along the uncongested dual carriageway. A third alternative is Murcia, about an hour's drive away - many charter flights operate here from the UK in the summer. Local Attractions: VERA is a very prosperous town and has many stores; it is rich in handicrafts and the amount of tourists is constantly increasing because of its well-known cuisine. There are fancy restaurants, as well as the popular Spanish “Tapas” bars. The friendliness and hospitality of the somewhat 7,000 inhabitants of Vera make this town especially attractive for both residents and guests. There is a street market every Saturday. Golf: The 18 hole, Valle del Este par 71 Championship Golf Course was designed by José Canales and opened in 2002. It is a spectacular desert-style course, integrated into the surrounding landscape by clever use of indigenous vegetation. It is consistently getting rave reviews from golfers of all levels. (See Golf World March 2004). There is a good combination of very challenging holes, with other less strenuous holes. The tees are particularly noteworthy, positioned on small raised platforms surrounded by volcanic rock. The fairways are wide and there are a lot of large sand bunkers on the course as well as 3 lakes and several waterfalls. All in all, a real challenge for any player. Current green fees are around 52-60 Euros with a lot of special offers/packages available at different times of the day and year. There is a driving range, a respected golf school and you can hire buggies (well worth it if you are playing in the heat of summer, but you can do without during the rest of the year and get some more exercise!).
