More about Casa Lorca:
Casa Lorca is in a small gated development right on the beach and is one of the most exclusive in the area. If you have children we are not near a main road and the setting is ideal for families. The communal pool opens right onto the sandy beach. Vera Playa beach is the best in the area. It is very wide, several kilometres long and is never crowded. Minutes away are the fishing village of Villaricos, the little port of Garrucha and the resort of Mojacar with its ancient white hilltop town above. If you get fed up with barbecuing in our flower-filled garden then Antonio's friendly open-air beach bar/restaurant is just 200 metres along the sand. It does everything from ice creams and burgers for the kids to great paella and seafood and is open day and evenings all summer. It's so popular with the locals that you have to book for lunch at weekends. There are plenty of other good places to eat but we usually don't trouble to go further. Just relax. That's what we made Casa Lorca for....
The Costa de Almeria:
The province of Almeria is part of the region of Andalusia in Southern Spain. It lies between but well away from the Costa Blanca to the north and the Costa del Sol to the south. It is almost entirely rural with no major cities or sprawling developments which have spoiled much of those Costas. In a way Almeria is like they were thirty years ago. Such development as there is has been strictly controlled as to quality and quantity. There are no high-rise hotels, package tours or lager-louts. That's probably why the Spanish holiday here themselves. They know that the Costa de Almeria really does have more hours of sunshine than anywhere else in Spain. And the beaches are lovely as well....... Come and enjoy it.
Around Casa Lorca :
For children, if they tire of the pool, there is a discreetly sited waterpark and go-karting nearby. In the country is the Wild West Theme Park where Clint Eastwood's 'Spaghetti Westerns' were filmed (dads love it). There is good fishing off the beach and boat trips locally, dinghys and windsurfers for hire, plus scuba-diving, golf, tennis, and riding. For youngsters there are bars and clubs in Mojacar with no 'yob' element. Eating out ranges from the excellent fish restaurants around Garrucha harbour, lovely little places in the countryside and many choices in Mojacar. The standard is generally good. Explore the countryside, Cabo de Gata National Park and the colourful weekly markets in the local towns and villages. There are lots of fiestas. Each place has its own. If you hear of one go to it. They literally go on til dawn and the whole village or town turns out. Local people here are very friendly. Whatever you like you can make what you want of a holiday here.
Golf:
Not everyone likes golf. This may come as something of a surprise to you but it happens to be true. Perhaps you should ask your better half. The great thing about Casa Lorca is that they can come with you and enjoy our lovely house, the pool & the beach while you are off playing with your balls. Then everyone is happy. Consider that before you book yourself & your beloved into a purpose built golf resort. Instead why not earn brownie points galore. Say you're taking them for a great beach holiday. You can always mention later that you have a vague idea that there may just be the odd course or two nearby. There are four excellent golf courses within five to fifteen minutes drive from Casa Lorca. They are Desert Springs, Val del Este, Marina Golf & Cortijo Grande. Desert Springs [18 hole par 72] [5 mins] is built to full USGA specifications and hosts top tournaments. The clubhouse is luxurious with a fine restaurant. Val del Este [18 hole par 71] [10 mins] lies up a little farm road which brings you to a splendid complex out in the country. Marina Golf [18 hole par 72] [10 mins] is in a spectacular position in the hills above Mojacar so that nine holes overlook the Mediterranean and nine look for miles across the countryside. Cortijo Grande [9 holes with plans to extend but, being Spain, goodness knows when] [15 mins] is in a beautiful setting among the orange groves in the foothills of the Sierra Cabrera mountains.
