About Mojacar:
Mojacar is located in the province of Almeria, in the south east corner of Spain, bordered by the provinces of Granada and Murcia. The Costa de Almeria has the driest and warmest climate in Europe with an average rainfall of 11 inches and average annual sunshine of 320 days. Mojacar and the surrounding area boasts one of the finest coastlines in Spain. The beaches are wonderfully clean and the water crystal clear. Mojacar has a wide range of restaurants including local Spanish, French, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Thai, North and South American. For self-catering there are a wide range of supermarkets and local shops, as well as the opportunity to buy freshly-landed fish at nearby ports. If you're looking for night clubs, 24 hour pubs & bars and high-rise buildings as far as the eye can see, Mojacar is not the place for you. However, if you're looking for a peaceful, fun, relaxed holiday in an area of outstanding nature beauty that is real Spain, you'll love Mojacar.
The Surrounding Area:
The province of Almeria offers a wide variety of things to see and do. Many of the villages around Mojacar hold weekly markets - these are always worth a visit. There are many inhabited cave villages, and there are prehistoric caves at Sorbas, as well as Roman and Moorish remains. Granada and the Alhambra are about a two hour drive away. Mini Hollywood (where films like 'Fistful of Dollars' were made) is an hours drive away. There are stunning views on the drive from Mojacar to Carboneras and onto the majestic coastline of Cabo de Gata with its hidden, secluded beaches and coves. Garrucha and Carboneras are both lively fishing ports selling freshly caught fish. A new waterpark can be found a 20 minute drive away. Nijar, about a 30 minute drive, is a great place to shop for local pottery and handicrafts.
How to get to Mojacar:
Flights from the UK can be found to Almeria (about a 45 minute drive to Mojaca), Murcia (about an hours drive), Alicante (about 2 hours drive) and Malaga (about 3 1/2 hours drive). Shop around for your flights - there are great deals to be found. A small car with air conditioning costs about £125 per week to hire. We always arrange our hire car over the Internet before we travel, its then very quick and easy to pick the car up when arriving at the airport.
