Gorgeous spacious beachside apartment in 'real' Spain.
Total refurbishment of this beautiful apartment has just been completed. The work encompassed converting two apartments into 1 large apartment. This smashing apartment is right on the beach, away from the tourist treck and on the outskirts of Adra town. It has breathtaking uninterrupted views of the blue Med and the ever-changing nautical scene. Pop down to collect oven hot bread when the bread man bleeps the horn and then enjoy breakfast on the balcony while watching the fishing boats, yachts and cruisers sail by. Relax here too in the midday sun and, later, sleep to the sounds of the waves breaking on the beach below. Jump into your beach wear, grab your towel and take the lift straight down to the beach for your swim / sunbathing. This lovely apartment has air-conditioning, a spacious lounge (+balcony with gardenette), a very large dining/lounge room (+balcony with separate barbeque utility), full new kitchen, four bedrooms, two bathrooms each with Jacuzzi. Towels and bed linen inc.

Adra town, only 53 kilometres from Almería and just off the Autovia from there, has a homely normality about it. It is located on Costa Almeria, the driest region of Spain. Here is a typical example of Spanish life in a harbour town. There are two long and quite beautiful beaches and the apartment is on the western and quieter side. Children’s play areas galore. Fishing from the harbour rocks. From the apartment, there is a fabulous prominade walk into the centre of town. All in all there is a great buzz of Spanish holiday makers in the summer months. Adra town is steeped in history and a visit to the tourist office, housed within one of the old towers buildings, is a must. If you would like to ski, Sierra Nevada is but two hours drive. There is wonderful walking in the local mountains there too. The city of Granada, with it's very famous ''Alhambra'' Palace, is about an hour and a half and Malaga city is about 2 hours. Also.... plenty of opportunity for golfers within easy reach.
Local activities diving, surfing, swimming, tennis, walking, sailing, cycling, fishing, horse riding, golf, wind-surfing, water skiing, mountaineering, paragliding

Each balconies is exclusively private. At night you can see the small fishing boats dot the sea with their fascinating lights and the moon shimmering lightly on the waves below. A glass of wine taken on the balcony at this time is a heavenly experience. A daily / weekly maid service is available at extra cost and this can be prearranged. There are 2 fresh bread deliveries to the apartment block, one at about 9 am and the other 11. If you miss these, you can pick up some basic needs at the local shop, 1 minute's walk away. Somedays there are fish, veg, ice cream deliveries. 2 lifts service the apartment block (very local...not holiday complex) and the apartment itself is on the 3rd floor. Cafe/restaurant and a tapa bar are within 1 minute's walk and have a true Spanish flavour. There is a 4* hotel 3 minutes walk (bar/dining for non residents) and the town is dotted with tapa bars and cafes and some nice restaurants ... all within walking distance. Internet cafes/lowcost phone booths locally. As everything is close by, there isn't need for a car, unless you wish to travel further. There is a wonderfully efficient and regular and very inexpensive daily bus service to/from all major towns/cities/airports from the town's bus station.

The municipal market, behind the 'Ayuntamiento' ( town hall ...where you can pick up local maps and information, free), sells fresh fish, meat, fruit and veg, etc. and is the local shopper's daily haunt. The local street market is a 'must' for those who love to shop. Lovely family apartment
Ber1, Uxbridge, Middx, UK
Review Submitted: September 06, 2008, Date of stay: August, 2008
The apartment is very clean and spacious, it has all the basics you will need for a family holiday (Including beach towels and bed linen). The owners description is very accurate and dealing with them was a pleasure.
Sitting on either of the two balconies sipping a glass of wine in the evening, is the perfect way to relax after a hard days sun bathing and swimming in the clear blue sea. The apartment is on the 3rd floor, with two lifts or stairs providing easy access. You are literally right on the beach, there is only a small quiet local access road separating you from it. A word of warning - the beach is quite stoney and getting in the sea can be fun as there are bigger stones for about 5 to 10 feet, after that it is sand though.
It takes about 15 minutes to walk in to the main part of the town along the sea promenade. There is a small local shop across the road and a supermarket less than 10 minutes walk away.
Adra is a tourist destination for mainly Spanish holiday makers, make sure you take a phrase book with you if you don't speak much Spanish. We had great fun trying to understand the locals and them us!
We were there in August and it was at least 30*C every day and not one drop of rain for the two weeks, heaven!
Owner's response:
Thank you Ber1, for letting us know that you enjoyed your stay so much. It is very gratifying for us to hear such nice news, as the restoration of the apartment was, in truth, a labour of love and the setting is, without a doubt, a little bit of heaven (which, by the way, only real angels can access!) We are very pleased that you found everything to your satisfaction.
It is a treat in disguise to have to battle with all that Spanish, but the local peolpe are so helpful and so excited to have ' visitors ' to fuss about. Next item on our shopping list is a rock breaker!
