Cortijo Vela Blanca is a villa built in traditional Moorish farmhouse style, with spacious living accommodation both inside & out. There are 2 walled gardens, well stocked with an olive tree, bougainvillea, hibiscus & other plants providing cool, relaxing, shaded ambiance. There are also 2 roof terraces upstairs, one with BBQ, great views & a great place for relaxing - or partying. It has a large fitted kitchen with all modern conveniences; & unusually the property has both full air-conditioning and a wood-burning stove to keep you comfortable all year-round. There's a large shared private pool in peak season, & the house looks over countryside, is close to deserted beaches, & only 5 minutes level walk to the town centre & its clean, sandy beaches. There's an extensive selection of videos, CDs & books for all the family. San Jose is a very Spanish resort with no high rise developments, a wide variety of restaurants & bars, supermarkets, internet cafe, banks, pharmacy & tourist office.

San Jose is in the sunniest, hottest area of mainland Europe, & part of one of the most spectacular, rugged & beautiful areas of the southern Mediterranean. The beaches of the Cabo de Gata National Park, with San Jose at its centre, are sandy & completely unspoilt. Playa de los Genoveses has shallow waters & plenty of shade-providing pine trees, ideal for all the family, while Playa de Monsul not only has great beaches, but also hosted Sean Connery & Harrison Ford in ' Indiana Jones & the Holy Grail' (the bit where they're being shot at by a German plane on the beach!). The area abounds in history from its Moorish occupation, with forts, castles, gold mines & ancient wells seemingly everywhere. The restaurants provide the healthy Mediterranean cuisine beloved of the mainly Spanish clientele, as well as both riojas & the surprisingly good (& cheaper) local wines. Granada, the Sierra Nevada, & the beautiful whitewashed villages of the Alpujarras are within easy reach.
