Los Canos de Meca holiday bungalow

The description was accurate for the most part. The walled garden was great for our smallies and happily there was a gate between our garden and the owner's garden that had the pool. Our two, (4 and 6) couldn't open this, though bigger kids would. The pool looked fine and was not used by other guests at this time of the year. (Start of May.) House decor and equipment were plain, definitely not luxurious. Fine for a holiday house with kids.

Area was residential in a very small scale, and very quiet. It was very near the Umbrella Pine park reserve. Across the road was a beach used mostly by kite-surfers. The better beach was about 1 km away near El Pirata restaurent. This is the most built-up area on a small cul-de-sac off the local road to Barbate.
The beaches are spacious, sandy and are less open, a bit more sheltered than elsewhere on the coast. There was an optional nudist beach here too, nearest the forest. This wasn't a great beach, very rocky.

Most of the restaurents/bars were around here too. There were not very many of these, maybe 4 or 5 restaurents and a few hotels. We mostly ate in Vejer. El Jardin del Calife is lovely.

There is a handy supermarket near a camping site in Canos de Meca, but better ones in Vejer and Barbate (SuperSol.) It is not possible to buy fresh milk anywhere. However the UHT stuff is fine. There are Health Centres in Vejer and Barbate where you walk in to a GP at certain hours. You need E111 cards.

There were a few small problems with the house but the owner Pepe sorted them out immediately. He or his wife were generally available and very friendly.

I would recommend the house to a friend. And I would stay there again.

It is worth visiting Cadiz, Gibraltar, Tarifa, Bolonia (Roman ruins), Zahora de los Atunes and inland, Vejer, Medina Sedonia, Arcos, Ocala(?). This is about as far as we got..

Also, bring a good phrasebook. There isn't much English spoken around here.
