This light and newly decorated villa set within 1000m2 of grounds with orange, lemon, fig and pomegranate trees is situated in a fantastic location on Costa de la Luz, the last unspoilt Costa in Spain. Its great attraction is a massive swimming pool that is long enough to have a proper swim in - 15m long! It has a shallow end for the kids too. Although only 3Km from the town of Chiclana, it is in a rural setting 200m from wetlands that are designated as a National Reserve. You can take long walks through this area and even do some bird spotting. 7Km from the villa is the famous, miles long, beach of La Barrosa (blue flag) and the sophisticated resort of Novo Sancti Petri which boasts a championship golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros. All this is only 30 minutes drive from Jerez airport where Ryanair flies in at very reasonable prices. Other nearby airports: Gibraltar (96km), Seville (160km), Malaga (220km).

Great nearby places to visit: CADIZ - the oldest still inhabited city in Europe. From here the Conquistadors overwhelmed much of Latin America and looted gold enriched the town. JEREZ - home of the famous Royal School of Equestrian Art and the centre of the world's sherry production. It is also known for motor sports (Moto GP and Formula One). TARIFA - Moorish walled town, looking like mini Marrakech, hosts world windsurfing championships. From here boats take you to Morocco or whale and dolphin spotting in the Straits of Gibraltar. EL PUERTO DE SANTA MARIA - Columbus set sail for the Americas in a vessel named after the town. LA DONANA - largest wildlife reserve in Spain (50,000 hectares). 300,000 birds representing 120 species as well as lynx, wild boar and otters. MEDINA SIDONIA - the Duke of Medina Sidonia led the Spanish Armada's attack on England. Spectacular views over the area from its walls. SEVILLE - this Spanish jewel is well worth the 75 minute drive.

We had a terrific family holiday in summer 2007, involving a mix of adults, teens and early 20s. The villa offers plenty of internal space, with air conditioning if you need it, as well as a large enclosed garden with a mix of sun and shade during the day. The pool was clean and kept at a pleasant temperature by the Spanish sun.
We were met in Chiclana on arrival by the caretaker and guided to the villa, which was very helpful.
There was only one technical hitch during our stay (the water pump failed because of road works) and this was dealt with quickly and efficiently by the caretaker.
Chiclana itself was too built up for our liking, but the villa is located well out of town in a quiet location. But there are plenty of other towns and villages in easy driving distance, which are charming.
The beaches were unexpectedly brilliant - clean white sand, and normally plenty of free parking nearby.
Restaurants were plentiful and generally very inexpensive, providing masses of seafood as well as normal meat dishes. Strangely we found it difficult to find tapas bars.
We enjoyed the fact that most restaurants only had menus in Spanish, and that there were very few British (or indeed any other nationality) tourists visible in the area: it really is somewhere the Spanish themselves go on holiday.
A car is essential, and this is not the place for those who want to go clubbing till the early hours.
But it provides good villa accommodation with access to great beaches, interesting places to visit and a very authentic environment.
Owner's Response: I do have fans in all the bedrooms as well as mosquito screens on all windows and doors so they can be left open, but no air conditioning.

Wonderful holiday

We all had a wonderful holiday at El Abeto. The pool is amazing and the gardens large enough for our boys to play ball games. The house was equipped with everything one could possibly need and was very comfortable- even at the height of the Spanish heatwave we had no problems sleeping. The beaches nearby were incredibly beautiful and the position of the house made it an ideal base for exploring the area.
We will definitely be back.

Pretty villa! The garden is really nice and you have everything you need to enjoy relaxing near the swimming pool and having lunches and dinners outside. The house is very well equipped ( I love cooking and I found the kitchen even better than mine!) and kept and we found the owner and the people taking care of the place very helpful and nice.
The place is very well located and the beaches there are really wonderful. It was not our first time in Chiclana but this has been the best for all of us. No doubt where we will stay next time in Costa de la Luz. Thank you!

Disappointing! The owner did not inform us that

the tap water is salty and not only unfit for drinking but also not suitable for use in cooking or even brushing your teeth. If that was not enough the water pump that pumps the water from the well into the property kept going off and we had to go a few times a day to reset it, we had that for a whole week when we left it had still not been fixed. Overall we did not get what we paid for it is worth half the rent being asked and only if you are prepared to put up with salty water in the swimming pool too.
Owner's Response: The lady in question objected to being charged for the microwave that was burned on the INSIDE from misuse ie. not through any electrical fault.
Her objection to slightly salty water in the property is unreasonable as this happens all over southern Spain especially in places that are close to the sea. All people living in the Costa de la Luz area use bottled water and supermarkets supply it in gallon bottles for approx.59 cents a bottle. Not one of my clients in the last 4 years found this to be a problem.
As for the swimming pool- people pay a fortune to have salt water systems instead of chlorine ones. All the best spas have them.
She had both my telephone number and e-mail address but did not contact me while staying in my villa. She chose to do so after her arrival home and after telling both my caretaker and gardener that she had a really good holiday.

Hello, we had our holiday here in Chiclana at El Abeto. It was a very, very good holiday. We didn't expect such a top house. The pool was absolute fantastic and the right size for our children to play waterball and more. Though the very hot weather, we always slept well in the house.
Everything was fine, but you have to go buy car for everything you need. It was very quiet. A Bar in the near would be fine.
