Casa Maria lies just below the romantic Romano-Moorish castle and just above the best international restaurant. The open-plan ground floor consists of sitting room with open fire, dining room and kitchen opening onto a breakfast room. Upstairs are two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The breakfast room opening off the kitchen and the double bedroom opening onto a terrace both have magnificent views over the countryside. The twin bedroom opens onto a balcony which looks straight at the castle keep and over the countryside to the rock of Gibraltar. There is a private pool.

Casa Maria, in Jimena village not far from Gaucin and Ronda, is situated in the magnificent countryside of the Alcornocales Park. It is within easy reach of Gibraltar and Malaga airports. The house overlooks the Ronda mountains on one side and the castle keep on the other with views down to the rock of Gibraltar.

Swimming: Swimming in the pools of the Hozgarganta river, rated the cleanest in Spain, is wonderful especially in May and June when the oleanders are blooming.

Historical: Many old Andalucian towns and sites of historical and archaeological interest may be visited within a day's driving. The area is rich in history. Within half an hour is the Valdarrama golf course and many other golf courses and also several polo fields.

Shopping and Food: Eating out at the many Tapas bars and restaurants both in Jimena and the surrounding area is a pleasure and the shops are well supplied with all the food you might need.

Other Activities: bird watching, visiting sites of architectural, archaeological and historical interest

Casa Maria is a lovely village house in a typical white washed pueblo village. The views from the back garden and balcony are breathtaking. The house is comfortable with a living room,dining room, kitchen on the entry floor and two bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs. It is able to accommodate two couples comfortably. The house has been tastefully restored with a Spanish and Moroccan decor. The kitchen is adequately supplied so that cooking in is easy. There are numerous small shops in the village where fresh products can be purchased daily. The village also has a number of small bars and good restaurants within walking distance.
Jimena is a wonderful destination for walking and cycling. There are many trails for walking in the hills and amazing flora and fauna. We had numerous bike rides in the area on roads and trails. It is not necessary to have a car in Jimena as it is serviced by train.
Jean the property owner is extremely knowledgeable about the area and is willing to share her knowledge with you and answer your questions. The house has maps and detailed information about the area as well as other areas further afield.
Casa Maria is the perfect place to experience rural Spanish life and culture in a beautiful setting.

The house on the hill

Quaint village house with tiny garden and private pool. Nice and cool in summer with 3 fans provided to help keep cooler upstairs. Rather basic kitchen with some 'interesting' electrics!! Probably not suitable for very small children as there is a stone staircase without bannisters and very little room outside for kids to run about. Parking quite a nightmare as house is on very steep cobbled hill with few spaces available at 'peak' parking times. Wonderful views of the mountains from bedroom terrace upstairs. Beautiful views of sunrise. No sun in garden in afternoons after about 5.00 which was great for non sun bathers like us. Could do with wooden shutters for back bedroom as very hot and only white curtains for protection from heat in mornings. Spotlessly clean with weekly clean and change of sheets and towels. Pool towels provided too. Friendly, knowledgeable owner who took time to make sure her guests were comfortable. Would recommend for anyone looking for Spanish holiday away from the rush and tumble of the 'costas' but not for anyone wanting bright nightlife. Easy to travel to Jerez, Cadiz, Ronda, Gibraltar etc with good roads. Jimena village very quite with little activity but great if you want to 'chill out'!! Reasonable priced food and drinks in village and surrounding area. Menu del dia at 8 Euros at 2 local restaurants within 5 mins drive from house. Rural charm and lovely basic experience for a 'townie'!
