Festivals and Fiestas.: February - Cadiz has a big carnival. Easter - many celebrations throughout the area especially Seville which boasts a fantastic carnival. May 1st - 8th - Famous Horse Fair in Jerez. June- August there are many carnivals, fiestas and parties in different towns - see Spanish tourism websites for details. September is a month of celebrations in Jerez with a horse parade and carnival day.
Whale and Dolphin watching, Tarifa. : A number of whale spotting guides operate from Tarifa (1 hour drive from Chiclana) offering two or three hour boat trips. Take a glass bottomed boat out to the Straits of Gibraltar to search for a variety of different whales and dolphins depending on the season. April to June - sperm whales, July to August - killer whales. All year round - long-finned pilot whales and three types of dolphin - bottlenose, common and striped.
Visit Tangiers, Morocco. : It takes 35 minutes by fast ferry to reach Tangiers from Tarifa (1 hour drive from Chiclana). Tangiers is a place with a history of intrigue and mystery. It has everything you'd expect from Morocco - a medieval old city, vibrant market , tea houses and gardens. When you step off the ferry everything leads to the medina, the old walled city. The souk, or market spills out from the walls - a labyrinth of narrow streets and courtyards full of stalls selling everything from rugs to spices all at rock bottom prices.
Golf: There are 7 golf courses, including 4 championship courses, all within 40 minutes drive, from the villa. The courses are not overcrowded and the area has little rainfall, making Chiclana one of the sunniest places in Spain and ideal weather for golf. 1) Nova Sancti Petri Golf,(designed by Seve Ballesteros has stunning views of the sea), 36 hole course (2 x 9, 1 x 18), Chiclana. 2) San Andres Golf, 9 hole course (soon to be 18), Chiclana. 3) Campano Golf, 9 hole course, Chiclana. 4) Vista hermosa Golf, 9 hole course, Santo Maria. 5) Dehesa Montenmedio Golf, 18 hole course, Vejer. 6) Costa Ballena Golf (designed by Jose Maria Olazabal), 18 hole course, Rota Jerez. 7) Montecastillo, (designed by Jack Niclaus)18 hole course, Jerez.
Other Activities: archery, sailing, flysurf, jet skiing, waterpark near Cadiz, padi dive centre in Conil (15km), whale & dolphin watching in Tarifa.
