Nerja, Weather & Beaches: Nerja is a beautiful part of Spain, still very unspoilt, and boasts 16 km of sandy beaches. Flanked by a dramatic mountain range to the east, Nerja has 320 days of sunshine each year with average temperatures of 25 degrees in summer and 15 degrees in winter. Nerja Town with its quaint shops, tapas bars, restaurants, a large supermarket and the famous Balcon de Europa, is just a short 5 minute drive from the Villa, or you can stroll into town either along the coast road or, as we do, along the beach path and this takes about 20-30 minutes leisurely walk. We usually walk along the beach and stop off for drinks and lunch in one of the many restaurants along the way. Burriana Beach, a five minute drive, is a blue flag beach, ideal for all the family, with water sports and lovely beach side restaurants and cafes. There are also, less busy, local beaches (El Playazo) just across from the Villa urbanization with lovely local restaurants where you can eat outside, overlooking the sea.
Ski:
What a thought hey, sit by the pool in the morning and have your breakfast and then make your way up to the ski slopes. The spectacular Sierra Nevada Mountains are just 90 minutes drive from the Villa so leave at 7am and be there by 8.30am! There are around 130km of pisted ski runs and it is ideal for beginners and experienced skiers, with fantastic nursery slopes as well as blue to black runs. It's lovely to be able to ski down from the top and see the sea in the distance. A lift pass costs about 30 Euros a day. Hiring skis is easy and you can book lessons with an English speaking instructor. There are plenty of lovely places to eat and drink. For those in your party who do not wish to ski, there is a lovely spa where you can spend the whole day using the indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room & sauna for 10 Euros. Skiing is only from December till April, but when the sun shines up on those mountains you are still likely to come home with a lovely tan.
Golf:
The Costa del Sol is as famous for it's golf courses as it is for the sun, in fact it is also known as the Costa del Golf. It does not matter whether you are a budding Tiger Woods with a handicap in single figures, or just like to go and have a knock around with friends; there is a golf course to suit you. Within 15 minutes drive from the villa there are two superb golf courses, one is Baviera Golf and the other Añ oreta Golf. Both are very well kept courses with Añoreta being slightly more difficult. You can hire buggies and even book lessons if you need. Baviera is a new course and both have plenty of water hazards for you to lose your balls in. About 30 minutes from the villa there are a number of golf courses around the Malaga area, including Alhaurin and Torrequebrada, and further down the coast there are plenty more, with a choice of mountain or lynx courses.
