Date of Stay: August 2008
The appartment
'Ground floor' is relative: it's situated next to stairs that lead you (and half the other people in the complex) to the garden.
The appartment wasn't very clean when we arrived. On the last day we found out why: the cleaninglady started cleaning the appartment with a cloth that had been used in the kitchen for two weeks...
The second week of our stay we couldn't use the patio because of smelly water coming up from the drain flooding the patio every day... (the contactperson was unavailable, so no help to solve this matter..)
Several small things: you had to wait half an hour in between showers in order to have hot water again, and the fridgedoor was partially broken, only to be taped together after several demands from our side.
And if you are thinking of renting a babycot, do bring your own matress, since they provided a plastic one (!)
Two of the four pools were out of order during our stay.
The environment
Contrair to what we had been told, you do need a car to get around. The appartment is right on the highway, so a walk is not recommended, especially with -young- kids. The 'nearby port' that was said to be a 15 min walk, is in fact 30 min away. Calahonda itself doesn't offer much entertainment.
Service
The lady who was our contactperson, was unavailble for half the time. Very annoying since there were a couple of big and small issues during our stay.
There is no cleaning service provided.
Owner's Response: As of 25/4/09 this property is under new local management who felt it necessary to highlight a few points regarding the property due to the fact that it has been successfully let for a number of years now.
The property is perfectly located for beach holidays with Calahonda beach directly at the back of the complex. One of the existing pools has recently been re-constructed, which is why it was recently closed. This pool leads directly onto the beach. There is also a beach bar for food and drinks. The complex, as before, now boasts two pools with two children’s pools of good quality.
The gardens are of course accessible to all who stay at the complex. The path from the car park does lead past the apartment, albeit only for residents and guests of the complex.
All previous drain problems have been rectified. These were however not the fault of the owners but a problem more for the community as a whole.
The cleaning of the apartment is undertaken by professional cleaners. It is worth noting, that this property is not in a hotel complex and is self-catering only. The property is cleaned and clean linen is provided before arrival of guests. The linen is not changed or the apartment cleaned during your stay unless specified by you during the booking stage. However if this is a service you require we will be glad to assist.
The hot water supply in the property is by emersion heater. There is no real gas facility for properties on the Costa del Sol for instantaneous hot water supply and this is the case with most coastal properties.
All beachside properties on the Costa del Sol are within a very short distance of the N340 carriageway. The carriageway runs all the way from Malaga right down to Sotogrande and in 90% of cases any beachside property will be close to the N340. The carriageway offers positives such as a one minute walk to the nearest bus stop and if you are renting a car, you are immediately on the main highway for the region. You are also only a short walk across the carriageway via a bridge to the bars, restaurants, banks, supermarkets and also the taxis if required.
There are numerous restaurants including Spanish, Chinese, Indian, British and Italian tastes offering varied menus to suit all tastes within comfortable walking distance.
