Excellent base

My partner and I stayed in this apartment for one week early in May 2008. Unfortunately the weather was not too good, so we were unable to take advantage of the pool in the apartment complex. The apartment is situated on the edge of the newer part of Frigiliana and is a good 15 minute stroll to the old town. There are one or two bars used by the locals on route as well as a very acceptable restaurant, if you don't fancy walking all the way into the village.
The property was immaculate, and the kitchen reasonably well equipped although there was no microwave. If there are more than two of you, you may find that there are not enough towels (there is a washing machine in the kitchen but I did not work out how to use it). We felt that some spare pillows would have been nice.
The large balcony is ideal for eating breakfast on as it gets the sun in the morning, but if you like to sunbathe, then 4 people would struggle to fit on the balcony at one time. Although the bedrooms are described as having balconies, they are not big enough to sit out on. I was disappointed to find that all 3 balconies overlooked a public road, albeit it was fairly quiet, it still meant that there was a lack of privacy.
This apartment is a short drive from Nerja, but if you do not have a car, there is a frequent bus service although we did not use it. Unless you want a very quiet time a car is essential.
The TV has a video player and there are some video's in the apartment, but you may want to take some of your own. There is no DVD player, but there is a good selection of paperbacks to cover most tastes. If you do enjoy watching TV you should consider taking your Sky box from home, as all programmes are in Spanish (we did not take ours as we were hoping to spend long balmy evenings watching the world go by, but the weather put paid to that idea). The complex has a satelite receiver dish and the owners advised us that we could have used our Sky dish.
If you only do one sightseeing trip, go to the caves at Nerja, they are amazing.
All in all, Frigiliana is great for a quiet week, but personally I would find two weeks a little bit too long. The pool area within the complex is quite compact, and I would imagine that families with children would find it (and apartment), too small.
Owner's Response: This review is very unfair; guests are provided with a full inventory and comprehensive notes on the apartment, including how the washing machine works. The inventory also includes ten pillows - 4 foam, 4 feather, to accommodate allergies to feathers and 2 long bolster pillows and many cushions on the sofas and in the bedrooms I can only imagine the guests did not look in the cupboards to find them. The number of towels supplied is according to the number of the party per week as there were two staying, four towels would have been supplied which I think is sufficient, especially as beach towels were not an issue due to the weather and we recommend people bring extra towels for the beach.
The kitchen has a dishwasher and, it is true, I'm not a fan of microwaves but this was also made clear within the inventory; I believe the kitchen is still nevertheless very well-equipped without one.
I think it is self-evident from the photographs that the balconies off each bedroom are small, however, I've now amended my description to refer to Juliette balconies as I believe this type are called. The terrace off the living room is large and there is plenty of room for four people on it, although there are only two sunloungers but also a large table with four chairs.
In relation to the road, it is a one-way, one-car width road with very little traffic and we have never found it a problem.
It is also not true to say you'd have a very quiet time if you don't have a car. As mentioned within the review, there is a very good bus service and also cheap taxis if you want to make the most of the many things to do in Nerja and the surrounding area.
Lots of holidaymakers stay at the apartment for two weeks and many for three and four weeks and they have a wonderful time, including families of four, sometimes with an additional baby; I'll have to get them to write a review for me. I've never taken part in the review system before but have been spurred into action by this first review!
I think the fundamental problem with this particular holiday was the weather which is unfortunate as there are apparently over 320 sunny days in Frigiliana throughout the year. I can guarantee most things in relation to the apartment and really make every effort to provide a home from home for people but unfortunately, I have no control over the weather!
