The surrounding Area.:
This is a compact seaside resort and town with excellent supermarkets & shops. On Tuesdays you will find yourself at the largest & liveliest street market on the coast as well as Saturdays boot sale with a predictably intriguing selection of items on sale. A trip to the Zoo or a sight seeing tour on a horse-drawn carriage or on foot are highly recommended as well as a host of sea sports and leisure activities. A strole down the narrow streets which still reflect an ambience of a bygone era with narrow streets and traditional white washed houses which once belonged to the local fishermen is truely an experience.
Area Festivals/Festivities.:
Annual Festivals,(Fiestas), in Fuengirola include the feast of the Virgin del Carmen in July when local fishermen carry an effigy of the Virgin out to sea, while the colourful FERIA takes place in October and is the time when the town really comes to life with flamenco and fun which carries on from dawn to dusk for a full week both by day & by night. The Beaches & Tourist Attractions.:
Fuengirola is famous for its five miles of sandy Beaches which include wide promenades and plenty of palm trees and flower beds and seating. The Beaches include Playa de los Boliches,Playa de las Gaviotas,Playa de Santa Amalia,Playa de la Campana & Playa de Torreblanca. Mijas is a definate on the tourist list especially in the oldest part of the village. There is a marked absence of traffic and cars therefore tourists and small children are given the unique opportunity of visiting the village on donkeys (or by foot)in a most colourful setting where even the donkeys are dressed in colourful Spanish attire.
