Fuengirola has something for everyone, it is a vibrant Spanish town with a fishing port, marina and a 7 km long beach promenade (Paseo Maretimo). This wide ‘paseo’ is interspersed with numerous beach side restaurants (chirinquitos) providing seaside sustenance and every facility for the beaches, which are maintained to a very high standard. Throughout Fuengirola and its adjacent seaside districts there are many excellent restaurants to suit every taste and pocket, from traditional Spanish and seafood to Indian, Italian, and Northern European. Shopping is a rewarding experience, with bars and cafes interspersing a variety of shops in the narrow ‘old quarter’ pedestrian streets and along the busy main avenues. Fuengirola is also home to a unique zoo, a museum, variety theatre, bull ring and castle (the latter two both host shows and concerts). There are two street markets each week and two major ‘fiestas’ every year, the Feria in October and Virgen del Carmen in July.
The Andalusian white hill town of Mijas is a 15 minute bus journey into the mountains and provides a charming change of scene.
