Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Alora, Spain

Alora only 35 mins from Malaga is a thriving multicultural community with French, German, Scandinavian and British. Therefore, many varieties of food, in addition to Spanish, are available. Prices in the bars/restaurants are amazingly reasonable. A large municipal swimming pool is in the centre of the newer part of the village. There is an abundance of small local shops, butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers, butchers and small supermarkets, newsagents and general stores etc. Alora celebrates many traditional festivals during the year, the most important being Santa Semana (Easter), Feria Real Romeria de la Virgin de Flores (Annual Summer Fair) and the Festival de Cante Flamenco (Festival of Vibrant Flamenco Music). Alora is a very friendly little place and we hope you will share our enthusiasm and enjoy it as much as we do. The whole area offers wonderful opportunities for relaxing, walking, photography, bird-watching, painting as well as a wider range of more active pursuits.

Alora is ideally situated for climbing, walking, cycling or sightseeing. El Chorro Gorge is an amazing natural phenomenon and natural park about 12 km away. Just beyond the gorge are beautiful lakes with turquoise blue waters, pine forests, uncrowded beaches and good restaurants. On this trip you will witness the awesome sight of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountain range. Malaga and the coastal areas are only 30-40 min drive. Gibraltar is also a possible visit for a day-trip. Transport - frequent bus and rail services available. Above all is the scenery which, as one guest described, 'it is stunning'. A great location for exploring Andalusia or as temporary home for those searching for their ideal casa or finca (house/cottag, be it in the town or in one of the many surrounding olive and lemon gro

An oasis of a base

What a great place to stay! In the heart of town but really really quiet due to the narrow streets. Bask on the terrace or cool down within the thick stone walls. A lovely welcoming property to return to at the end of days exploring the amazing Andalucian countryside and towns. We only recently discovered Spain and the incredible culture of this area, and this is the perfect location to explore it from, and a great town house with real character

Do visit Ronda and El Chorro and the lakes - simply stunning. In Ronda, take a look at all 3 bridges, visit the islamic era baths and the Ronda Museum, which has amazing views from the downstairs rooms... Alora itself has the castle, churches and multiple great bars and eateries. The area itself is great for culture, scenery, and exploring on two wheels or four, although cycling only for the seriously committed! Better off with something with an engine to my mind... although once you get up the the top of the mountains the views are to die for.

Glinys and her husband (the owners of this property) actually live on the other side of Alora and made sure we had everything we needed from extensive local information and leaflets about Alora and beyond, as well as being happy to advise on days out and being on the end of a phone if we needed them (we didn't!). Oh, and a great welcome pack of essentials in the fridge on arrival, which took the stress away from day one. Lovely clean welcoming property and we will definitely stay again. The perfect place to explore a perfect region from.

and a very genuine stay! The description regarding location and facilities was absolute accurate and the friendly owners provide a warm welcome and lots of information about the surroundings. We stayed there for climbing around El chorro and the gorge and can recommend the accomodation to any other climbers. The kitchen was well equipped and we loved to have breakfast and dinner on the large balkony upstairs.

Experience the 'real spain'

We have just returned from Alora (spent 17 fab days in August 2009) and had a wonderful time. The weather was stunning, up in the 40's every day. The village of Alora is very quaint set on a hillside but very hard on the old 'achilles' - you have to be quite fit to get about. There are lovely tapas bars and restaurants in the village, all close the townhouse. We all loved the townhouse it was very spacious and very clean. The plunge pool was fab I dont think we would have survived without it. Glinys was so helpful and kind and at the end of the phone if we needed her. We hired a car for 8 days in the middle of our holiday. Ronda is definately worth a visit. The lakes, which are not too far away, are also stunning, spent two days swimming in them. When we didnt have the car we lazed about on the patio or caught the train into Malaga it was so cheap and easy. We had a great holiday, townhouse was excellent, village great, weather stunning. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Henry and companiens explored Andalusia

Master Henry Klagenfurt, Austria
Review Submitted: September 18, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
As our heads told us repeatedly passing the small doors, your house was a little bit smaller than expected. But day by day we loved this authentic spanish home and Àlora more and more. Especially we loved the breakfasts and relaxing evenings on the wonderful terrace. Àlora was the perfect central basic camp to explore the treasures of Andalusia and its towns. We and our heads will never forget this wonderful journey and accomodation.
