Ronda is one of Andalucia's loveliest towns, stands on a towering plateau and is famous throughout Spain for the plunging river gorge which divides the medieval from the 18th century parts of the village. Ronda is also famous for its bullring, the oldest in Spain. Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Cadiz are all within easy reach for day trips as is Tanger, with Morocco 35 minutes from the ports of Tarifa or Algeciras. The famous Valderrama golf course is 90 minutes away as is Jerez, the home of sherry. Some of the world's finest, pre-historic cave paintings can be seen at the Cueva de Pileta, which is only 15 minutes drive from Casa Halcon. The Cueva (Cave) and its 25,000 year old paintings are available to view daily and well worth a visit. The Romans ruled this part of the world for 400 years and left behind a fortress complete with amphitheatre and viaduct in Ronda. The Moors were in charge here for 8 centuries and constructed some of Ronda's finest buildings, including an impressive bath.
