Air conditioned penthouse with 3 swimming pools. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms.

The apartments of the Gold Crown holiday complex of Dona Lola are right beside the sea, amid heavily scented gardens, swaying palms and waterfalls.

This privately-owned air-conditioned penthouse is on the third (top) floor, and has superb unimpeded views of the sea and coast-line from its spacious South-facing balcony. This intimately private balcony has a dining table, 6 chairs, and a couple of loungers. Ideal for spending those long sunny days just relaxing watching the fishing boats and ferries on the ocean right in front of you, and for romantic evenings.

There are 3 swimming pools. The largest, at 270 feet long, meanders right by the sea. The second is for over 18's, is heated by solar panels, and offers a peaceful alternative to the main pool at peak times. The third is also heated and inside our leisure complex, along with fully-fitted gym, saunas, steam-room, jacuzzi, beauty-salon, etc.

Calahonda is a favourite holiday destination as it is ideally situated right by the sea between Fuengirola and Marbella (both about 10 minutes drive away), and only 25 minutes drive from Malaga Airport. There's an an excellent bus service along the coast, with buses running every 25 minutes to Fuengirola and Marbella, stopping off at lots of beaches, villages, and attractions on the way. If you wish to travel further afield in the Malaga direction, a train will whisk you along the coast from Fuengirola via such tourist hotspots as Benalmadena and torremolinos.

Calahonda has a wide variety of shops, banks, bars, restaurants and cafes. It has it's own medical centre, a picturesque marina, and two golf courses.

The lovely white village of Mijas is about 20 minutes drive up the foot-hills. Puerto Banus Marina is about 15 minutes drive. Gibraltar is about a 70 minute drive away. The magnificent Selwo Adventure Park at Estepona is in the same direction, but about 25 minutes away.

  • I am happy to negotiate special terms for extended off-season holidays, such as 4 weeks for the price of 3 !
    30% deposit on booking.
    Balance due 8 weeks before holiday.
    A £100.00 'damage deposit' is charged, which is fully refunded if the apartment is left in good order.
  • Payments normally by cheque, or direct bank to bank transfer. PAY PAL accepted, but with a 3% surcharge (that's less than they charge me ! )
  • In the event of a holiday needing to be cancelled, I ask to be advised as soon as possible, whereupon I will use my best endeavours to re-let. If I can re-let, I will return your deposit, less any expenses incurred for additional advertising etc. I strongly advise that cancellation insurance is taken out.

Powerful shower over bath in both bathrooms Both bathrooms have opening windows to the outside, providing excellent ventilation so that that towels and shower-curtains dry quickly, and bathrooms remain dry and condensation-free. Mirrors with effective overhead lighting, and shaver-sockets, are fitted to both bathrooms. There are ample towel-drying rails, shelves, cup / tooth-brush holders and wall-cabinets. Rubber mats for inside baths. The biggest possible electric hot-water tank provides ample hot water for six people. All electricity used is included in the rental price. There are no extras, no meters, and no condensation !

  • A total of 6 single beds make this apartment suitable for family accommodation, or six single-sex golfers. Cot & high-chair & buggy provided. There are beautiful sea-views from the master bedroom and both showers ! A glass door allows direct access from master bedroom to balcony. All three bedrooms have been individually designed, furnished, and decorated to enhance their different shapes and characters. All have large fitted wardrobes, providing ample storage space for all your clothes, and those bulky suitcases. Plenty of clothes-hangers are provided. There's a wall-mounted television in the master-bedroom, and hair-dryer, and floor safe in wardrobe. All bedrooms are air-conditioned, and heated in the cooler months. Just choose your temperature. A spectacular vista!:

From this top floor vantage point, the fishing boats can be seen leaving the beach in the morning, and returning to beach-up a few hours later. Larger boats and ships, including cruise ships, are constantly appearing and disappearing from view. Some of my guests have told me that they have spent quite a large proportion of their holiday on this balcony, just watching nautical life go by. And why not? There are 2 lounger’s, a table, and 6 chairs, so you can dine 'alfresco', and you're not far from the fridge for cool drinks, or the air-conditioned rooms within if things really do get too hot.

It's a good spot for bird-watching too. Mostly you're looking down on them! I provide binoculars to watch the diving birds. If you're lucky you'll see ganets & dolphins !

And it's a wonderfully romantic place to sit in the dark, watching the twinkling mast-head lamps on the boats, and on a clear night, lights along the African coast-line. You can imagine you're in a crows nest !

Extensive range of leisure facilities.:

The Dona Lola resort offers an extremely extensive range of leisure facilities. The outdoor pool begins at a shallow end safe for youngsters, and then just meanders right alongside the sea for 270 feet and under 2 lovely white bridges before reaching the deep end.

Dozens of lounger’s and umbrellas surround the pool, and it's a lovely place to relax, with the hypnotic sound of the waves lapping up the beach and against the rocky outcrops providing snooze-inducing background music.

There's an area near the pool for the youngsters to gather, with pool-tables.

Our heated & sheltered adult pool offers a quieter facility at peak-times. There are loads more lounger’s & umbrellas here, and you're within easy reach of the bar / bistro in a lovely sun-trap amongst waterfalls & ponds. There is an indoor leisure centre, with it's own heated pool, spa, saunas, steam-room, and gym etc.

There is a children's play-room under the supervision of Curro, our entertainment provider !

Extensive range of sporting facilities.:

There are tennis courts on the complex, and there are snooker, pool, and table-tennis tables in the indoor leisure centre. There are good places in the sea close by for snorkelling. On beaches within easy reach of the resort you can try water-skiing, jet-biking, sailing, and wind-surfing. There's a diving school at Torreblanca, horse-riding (and horse-racing!) at fuengirola, some cracking bowling greens at very nearby Miraflores, water-parks at Torremolinos and Fuengirola, and a casino at Benalmadena! There are opportunities to partake in a 'jeep safari', or to ride a quad-bike in the 'Sierras' to the North.

If you decide not to hire a car, but want to see more of Spain, then book a space on a coach at the Dona Lola reception. There are regular organised coach-trips to such spectacular places as Ronda, Nerja, and Seville, and to some less-spectacular, but interesting, Tangiers ! You can often partake in a FREE reception trip to Malaga or Mijas, or to the market at Fuengirola.

Ski:

The Sierra Nevada is only about two and a half hours away by car. There is a wide variety of ski-slopes there, suitable for learners and experts. The full range of equipment and clothing is available for hire, and the prices are very reasonable.

The Sierra Nevada is a really nice place to visit during an out-of-season holiday at my apartment. You don't need to ski to ride on the cable-cars and ski-lifts, and to thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere and fantastic views. Hire a skidoo ! Perhaps stay overnight, experience the atmosphere of the ski-bars too, and visit Granada and the Alhambra Palace on the way back the next day.

Golf:

The Costa del Sol (or Costa del Golf as many Spanish road signs proclaim!) is known as 'golfer's paradise', and deservedly so.

Delightful Dona Lola!

We would highly recommend staying at this charming apartment which was exactly as described in the listing. Location was excellent, only a straightforward 25 minute car journey from Malaga airport and the complex was situated right on the sea front. The furthest we travelled was to Seville approx 2hours drive away but was well worth it and Ronda was 1hour. The living room and master bedroom had stunning sea views, also great for watching the sun come up. The complex was well looked after and the leisure facilities looked great although we just didn't get time to use them. There was also a convenient shop and a few bars/restaurants on site with more situated across the road -all within easy walking distance including Italian, Chinese, Indian, Spanish and English. The apartment itself was clean, well maintained and had a lovely sea themed decor. It didn't seem like a holiday flat but felt homely. We made good use of the washing machine, dishwasher, cooker, toaster and microwave with no problems. 6 of us were sharing with no hot water shortages neither morning nor night. Brian, the owner was very helpful and informative, providing generous information before and after making the booking and on arrival.

total relaxation

Every year I spend one or two weeks at Dona Lola, sometimes renting from the complex, sometimes, as this year, privately, and every year it is a total pleasure. Half an hour or so from the airport but far enough that no airport noise - wrong side of a mountain. The complex staff are efficient, friendly and helpful, the complex itself has great facilities and is impeccably maintained.
It's the easiest most relaxing part of the year. I fly back tomorrow and it's with no trepidation at all.

Enjoyable holidays

It was our first holiday in Spain wiht the family and we enjoyed it very much. Our three children (13, 14 an 16 years)told us that every day was worth it. We had a lot to see and do. The Dona Lola complex was well looked after and offered many bars and restaurants so we didn't have to use the car for going out in the evening. We also used the indoor pool for water gymnastics and the fitness center. The outdoor pool was right next to the beach so that we could easily change between it and the sea. The apartment was spacy and clean and we had a nice view from the balcony. Everything was fine!

We had a lovely, relaxing holiday at your apartment, the view is amazing. We spent a lot of time just sitting on the balcony, gazing at the sea and chatting. The Dona Lola complex is very nice, exceptionally clean and well maintained and the adults pool is so quiet. Thank you so much for all the information you sent to us prior to the holiday, it was greatly appreciated. We enjoyed the walk along the beach to the Garden Bar Restaurant on 2 occasions, just in time for a cold beer watching the sunset!

Just came back from Donal Lola House. We are a small family (2 adults and two children 14 and 8) from Canada and we spent 10 days basking in the sun and visiting the most beautiful villages and towns we have ever seen. The condo was exactly as described, very clean & fully equipped, with great views of the sea.

The condo is located within a vacation resort, a lot of other condos being rented on a timeshare basis. The majority of the other vacationers where from the UK. The pools and grounds are very well maintained. There are quite a few restaurants within and around the resort. This location is ideal for families. The beach area in front of the condo is nice also. The area surrounding the resort (other vacation condos and villas, boutiques, etc.) have seen better days. The best strategy for us was to relax by the pool until late afternoon and then drive to the small towns in the area. Wow! You MUST go to: Mijas, Ronda, Marbella (old town), Casares & Malaga.

Brian was very helpful and proactive during the reservation process and provided a lot of useful information prior to our departure from Montreal.

We rented a car from Paco and we also asked him to pick us up at the airport. The car was brand new and was waiting for us at the condo. Paco also had the keys to the condo with him so everything was made simple and hassle free.

Other quick notes: We all loved the italian restaurant (with real wood over pizza), bring snorkeling equipment if you can (lots of fish to see and the sea was calm during out stay), watch out for urchins in the water and on the beach, bring a GPS if you can (getting around the small villages can be tricky), the condo is on the third floor (great views of the sea but lots of stairs - if you are not in shape, it could be a challenge).

We highly recommend Dona Lola House for families wishing to relax and visit Andalusia (not the best for couples looking for a romantic getaway as there are many families on the premises).
