Things to do:
There is so much to see and do in and around Riviera if you find time between sun, sea & sangria!
Heaps of history lies in the surrounding hills of Andalucia. Many a happy morning can be spent shopping in the colourful local markets or why not go to El Corte Ingles in either Malaga or Marbella for some department store shopping? Lunch is a big deal in Spain, so why not head up into the hills to Mijas Pueblo, a traditional 'white village' with many small gift shops & have lunch at the Alcazaba restaurant (make sure to ask for a terrace or window table) to take in the fantastic views over the Costa del Sol out to the coast of Africa! Take it easy after lunch and take a stroll through the cobbled streets or let the donkey taxis take the strain. We're only 10 mins from the Aqua park at Fuengirola or 15-20 mins from Sealife or Tivola World (theme park) at Belamadena. Alternatively, go people (& expensive boat) watching in Marbella or Puerto Banus whilst relaxing in the sun.
Enjoy!
Bars & Restaurants:
There are several bars in Riviera, try David's bar for a relaxing evening drink and a very popular bar is George's bar. Charleys Bar & Restaurant looking onto the A7 (N340) main coast road, is well worth a visit, where you will get a friendly welcome & a great meal. The nearby underpass ends to a safe beach with a number of atmospheric beach bars (chiringuitos). A new restaurant/bar, on the beach, has just opened. There are also many others in nearby Calypso and Calahonda. A great place to 'lunch' is at Cabopino marina where you can watch the boats and people go by with a glass in your hand...
For a special night out, valet parking and a bit of flamenco - we cannot recommend Valparaiso in Mijas highly enough! It's a bit pricey by Spanish standards but the food is absolutely delicious and the company may well include a few famous celebrities from time to time... Contact us for the phone no. and directions.
Almost all places welcome children with open arms & spoil them rotten!
Shop til you drop!:
Apart from the local markets, there are many other ways to shop on the Costa...
Riviera Plaza sits on the main road through Riviera del Sol. It hosts a number of retail outlets, cafe/bar and a supermarket, as well as toilet facilities. The Plaza is open 9.00am - 9.30pm Monday - Saturday, closed on a Sunday. Centro Comercial is a small complex consisting of the Miraflores supermarket, a hardware shop & other associated businesses/restaurants. If you are travelling up from the bottom of Riviera del Sol & you come to the top of the Avenida del Golf, as the road turns left to go down past the driving range take a sharp right & follow the signs. Centro Commercial is approx 150 yards along this road on your right hand side. El Corte Ingles is the only department type store around (stores in both Malaga & Marbella).
Head for Fuengirola to the Miramar shopping complex for the mall type stores.
Don't forget a visit to the tax free town of Gibraltar is only 1hrs drive away on the toll road!
