Coast/Beach:
5km of sandy beaches and a yachting marina are just 5 minutes walk. A broad sweeping promenade, which is remote from traffic and safe for children, stretches around the bay west to Torre del Mar and east to Algarrobo Costa and Mezquitilla and is ideal for a relaxing stroll to the many bars and restaurants and other entertainment. The sea has a gentle gradient and is safe for children. Caleta de Velez has a marina and fishing port with over 200 craft of varying shapes and sizes.
Golf:
In Caleta de Velez, there is an excellent 18-hole golf course, Baviera Golf, just 5 mins drive. The course commands stunning sea and mountain views and was designed by top Spanish pro Jose Maria Canizares, who played in four Ryder Cups. The course can accommodate all levels of players from the novice to scratch. The facilities include a clubhouse, driving range, restaurant, pro shop, changing rooms and showers. Lessons, trolleys, buggies and club hire are available. Many other golf courses are within easy reach (currently 37 in Malaga province).
Skiing:
Sierra Nevada at Granada is less than 1.5 hour drive and is Europe's most southerly ski resort, hosting top Alpine ski tournaments. It is open from December to April and has many ski schools, ski hire etc. There are many hotels, bars and restaurants, boutiques and shops to keep you busy off-piste. Even in the summer, it is worth a trip when the spectacular mountain scenery can be viewed from the cable cars, giving a dramatic change from the beaches on the coast.
