Surrounding: On those days when one wishes to leave this peace, possible visits to close by cities and towns such as the coastal Málaga, capital of the province and home to the new' Picasso museum' are not far off. Also in Malaga and now again open to visitors and completing the cultural, historical offering of the city are the Arab fortress 'La Alcazaba', the Roman amphitheatre and its Cathedral.
Besides visiting the area of Sierra de las Nieves from La Era, day trips may be made to cities such as Ronda (50 km.), Granada (125 km.), Marbella (55 km.) Antequera ( 65 km.), El Chorro gorge, Seville (200 km.), and nearby Gibraltar and Cordoba (180 km.).
On summer time possible/ beautiful beaches: Malaga area 45km / 40 mins drive as weel as in Marbella, Puerto Banus 52km /45 mins drive and in Torremolinos, Mijas, Estepona and Fuengirola; like 54km /45 mins drive. In Casarabonela you find shops, fresh vegetables, meat, fish, bread, as well as a couple of banks and plenty of places to eat 'tapas'.
Access: Nuevespigas is easily reached from Malaga & its Airport via the A-357 direction Cartama. After about twenty minutes on this road you will find a sign on your right indicating Casarabonela, Alozaina on the A - 354. Turn left onto this road and after 10 to 15 minutes turn right towards Casarabonela, before actually going into the village (A - 7275) and after the Peugeot Garage & Aliprox Supermarket you will find on your right a sign toward Nuevespigas. They will lead you to a dirt road (in good condition) and to two steep climbs which can be easily salvaged in first gear and stepping on the gas. Whether you are coming from the Malaga Airport or Marbella via the N-340 the prior roads are the same to reach La Era. From Sevilla or Granada the approach should be made via the A-92 first and later the A-382 to Campillos which connects with the A-357 direction Malaga and again reaching the A-354 into Casarabonela.
Cooking Courses & others: La Era was the Hotel/ Country Villa in which celebratory chef ' Rick Stein' recently stayed and filmed his new TV series for the BBC and described it as his secret valley.
