GUESTBOOK....From the moment we set foot in the front door, the welcome awaiting you made you feel you were visiting friends rather than staying in a hotel. Nothing is too much trouble and you make your guest feel very relaxed. We enjoyed all the different dishes you served. A really lovely hotel and one we will return to.

La Era: A villa to avoid!

Ted1229 Bloomfield, CT USA
Review Submitted: August 19, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Villa La Era in Casarabonela deserves a one star rating and that star is for the marvelous view from its terrace. Everything else leaves a lot to be desired, especially the management. With all of the beautiful options for rentals in Andalucia, I would avoid this one as if it were the plague.
Our party booked a July 2009 rental and sent a deposit for two weeks (non-refundable and you are expected to pay all of their bank fees in addition to your own) back in December of 2008. At that time, we asked about the additional cost of air-conditioning and were quoted a reasonable amount. Nothing was sent to us regarding the rental until one and a half weeks before we were scheduled to arrive and, at that point, we received a full page contract to sign which stated that the cost of air-conditioning was to be more than four times the amount originally quoted. Despite the obvious absurdity of this new amount, any and all optional charges should have been made clear from the very beginning. This was not the case. Additionally, previously undisclosed surcharges appeared for the optional use of beach towels, extra pillows and so on.
At the property, the pool was not very well maintained, the fountain that was shown working in photos was not operating, the advertised internet connection did not work and no warnings were given about the intensity of the winds around the villa.
Getting to the villa is an exercise in automotive endurance. The "roads" going up and up are, in some sections, nothing more than concrete paths full of dangerous potholes and the final incline is impossible unless you turn off the air-conditioning. A rental without tire and axle insurance is risky business.
Every item in the house is meticulously inventoried so that money from the security deposit can be deducted should the slightest thing happen- in our case, a small cheap vase was pushed off a table by the strong winds that blow through the house if any doors are open- and doors need to be open, if one opts out of the air-conditioning as we did. That little problem cost us dearly.
Do yourself a favor and stay with gracious owners elsewhere in beautiful Spain!

Beautiful villa,amazing views.Very peaceful.

Deborah&Andrew Bath, Somerset. England
Review Submitted: June 4, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We rented the villa as a family group to attend a wedding nearby. We all immediately felt at home. It is set high up overlooking the pretty town of Casarabonela, which after dark looks magical. The rooms are spacious and beautifully laid out and decorated. Each room has amazing views across the mountains. There is a lovely quiet and relaxing living room also with stunning views and a large dining room with a patio area with views across to the town. The kitchen and laundry room are very well equipped. The owner filled the pool early for us (May). It was a bit chilly but made for some bracing swims!
The villa is a five minuet drive, down fairly steep rough roads, to the town which has all the amenities.
We had a very relaxing, peaceful holiday. We would certainly reccommend La Era to people wanting to get away from the conventional image of the Coast del Sol. It is an excellent base for exploring the 'real' Spain.
