Golf:
The attractive town of Antiquera is a 30 minute drive inland from the villa. There is a challenging course to be found on the outskirts of the town. It is at present an 18 hole course, but will soon have 36 holes. The course is in a spectacular position, surrounded by mountains and dotted with crystal clear lakes. It is quiet, even in the high season. The club house serves excellent food, which can be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the course.
The 'Costa del Golf' can be reached in half an hour, where numerous courses can be found.
Area:
This is 'Real Spain'! The pace of life is slow, restaurants rustic and tourism hasn't reached here. The roads wind up and down mountains, usually with breathtaking vistas.
This is fantastic walking country. It is possible to walk in any direction from the villa and enjoy unbeatable views. Artists will find fantastic landscapes around every corner here, and Comares offers wonderful cobbled narrow alleys, and flower-filled window boxes .
Ornithologists will be captivated by the famous 'Comares eagles'. It is a new experience for most people to be able to sit on the villa terrace and watch them swoop BELOW!
People looking for nightlife, shopping and tourist attractions would be better heading for the coast. However, if you enjoy peace, quiet and stunning scenery then you will love it here!
Special notes.:
Please note the following:
A real bonus is that, unlike most properties in the area, Casa Estrella's water is from a borehole near Comares. So what? you may wonder. Water is very precious in Spain, and it is common during the summer months for mains water to be turned off. That's not too bad for a few hours, but last year, nearby villages had no water for two weeks. So, no showers, dishwasher, washing machine, flushing loo, washing up etc. etc. The borehole water (which is no different to normal mains water,) has, to our knowledge, never been turned off. Even if it was, we have had a huge water tank installed in the garden which would least for a week.
Although the terrace is gated, due to its mountainside position we consider the villa unsuitable for very young children or those with mobility difficulties.
The last 100 metres of the track leading to the villa is rough, steep and unmade, but is accessible without 4 wheel drive. It's worth it when you get there!
