Well we wanted an away from it all break and that is what we got - the villa is lovely. the drive to it down a dirt track was a bit hair raising at first but worth it. On our first day there we made sure we stocked up with provisions en route from the airport - there are shops and a supermarket in competa but you pass a huge shopping centre on your way there so its silly not to stop up and bulk buy water, fruit, wine etc!. Our first visitors later that day were the local goats, the goat herder and his four scraggy dogs! They announce their arrival with gentle neck bells and are gone as soon as they arrive! The views are wonderful, the villa beautiful, clean and well equipped, the pool is a dream - especially if you have children. Competa is a quaint town with plenty of hills to walk up and down, shops, restaurants etc and locals on horses trotting up the cobbled streets! the drive to the coast was winding and you can't take your eyes off the road if you have to drive - passengers can enjoy the scenery. Nerja was a dump, Torrox beaches were much nicer and cleaner so when it was beach time we tended to stick to the coast right at the bottom of the winding road down from competa. Night times at the villa involved much use of the outdoor barbecue, and eating overlooking the mountains and down to the sea. the mountain location meant nights were cooler and sleeping was easy! We have never done so much relaxing, reading and just looking around - if you can't stand to be "still" and "chilled" then this place may not be for you, but if you want a totally relaxing break in beautiful surroundings, some privacy, not to share a pool with anyone, quaint "real" Spain rather than brit pubs and food on the costa then this is the place for you. It was a wonderful experience of our first "private villa" type holiday and it will be hard to do anything different from now on!
