Well equipped kitchen with dining area, fridge/freezer, washing machine & dishwasher. Large terrace with uniform depth swimming pool, amazing coastal & hillside views, Spanish BBQ, terraced garden. Safe sandy beaches at Torre del Mar 20 minutes & Nerja approx 30 minutes. Car hire is essential, local taxi company who will collect & return you to the villa for those nights you want to leave the car. Wonderful choice of restaurants locally. Competa has mini supermarkets, bakers & the Hyper-market at Torre del Mar & shopping precinct is worth a visit. Day trip to the Alhambra Palace in Granada pre bookable on Internet. The villa is only a 10 minute drive from Competa and 5 minutes from Archez. Competa is situated in Andalucia bordering on the edge of the Sierra Tejeda National Park. It is a charming flower bedecked old town with its main centre, the Plaza Almijara, dominated by a magnificent sixteenth century church as well as restaurants, tapas bars, craft shops and small supermarket. Archez is much smaller and very historic with it's ancient moorish church. The area remains very typical, the olives & almonds are still collected by hand. The local wine is famous throughout Spain, every August 15th the wine festival is held in Competa with traditional dancing & singing. The villa is in a perfect location to be as active or lazy as you like! Beautiful views make it hard to leave, but you are within easy distance of the beach or picnicking by a cool mountain stream. Just 45 minutes drive from Malaga airport & you are in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Great views, private pool and secluded

We spent a week in June at the property and found it ideal for lounging around with our friends. The outdoor built-in barbecue was used every night and I still yearn for the Salchidas Blancas and cheap Rioja from the supermarket in Competa! The views are awesome and evenings on the patio are serene.

We found the villa roomy and well stocked and were grateful for the provision of Freesat on the telly for the kids. The built-in mosquito blinds mean that you can open the blinds at night to keep cool though each room had a fan.

I can confirm that the driveway is now concreted - lord knows how you got up it beforehand!

Competa is a charming traditional small town with a big enough supermarket to mean you need never visit the hypermarkets near the coast, which is great as its quite a drive to the coast and the costa del sol looks a bit drab after the views in the mountains (though Nerja's worth a visit). Just make sure you park in the main car park in Competa and don't try to navigate the tiny roads through the town or you'll wish you'd taken the extra insurance on the hire car!

In summary; for the money, this is a decent villa for a secluded holiday a short drive from an interesting town. A holiday in cooler weather may also be interesting if you want to do walking. Next time we'll leave the kids at home though.

This property is exactly as described - quiet, well appointed & very clean. The neighbours are very welcoming and keep themselves to themselves, making the villa ideal for older couples and families. It is not totally isolated and can be overlooked from the road and property above. The local manager was very friendly, english and lives locally. We did have some minor problems with the kitchen equipment - the previous occupant had burnt the oven and knackered the frying pans so cooking for a villa stay was difficult, achievied mainly via the microwave/grill & BBQ. The photo does not show the awning providing shade on the terrace (a very welcomed thing!) The directions to the villa are good as is the local information file provided and a visit to the hypermarket on the way in is recommended. The nearest village, Competa, has a good english newsagent and a decent supermarket. For meals out, the El Pinon is very highly recomended (english menus & english speaking waiters/waitress). Bear in mind that if your visit is in September, it may be very sunny & the air temp high but the pool is not heated and may be cold (20c). We stayed mainly at the villa, visiting two attractions - The Alhambra Palace at Granada and the caves at nearby Nerja. If you go to the palace, pre-book via the internet and make sure you are on time! (Its ok if you like looking at buildings and gardens otherwise overpriced and overhyped). The caves are worth the visit and good value for money. (Beware of the siesta times!). Overall, we had a very relaxing, quiet & stress free week and would thoroughly recomend this villa.

Rural retreat with stunning views

We have just returned from a week at this Villa. The access track is a bit scary - in fact we got stuck on our first ascent! Having said that the villa manager assured us that the track is due to be concreted in 6 weeks - that should make a big difference. As for the Villa itself, its in a beautiful location with stunning scenery - day and night. The Villa is clean and well stocked out with everything you might need. There's a wonderful system where everyday items like condiments/washing powder/bin bags even Gin(!) etc etc is left behind by the previous guests and you just replenish that you use - a refreshing approach. The pool is lovely (perhaps a little on the small side) although you should be aware that its a uniform depth of just over 5 foot. There's no air conditioning there so you will have to rely on fans on warm nights - they make it just about bearable - but hey who can complain about the heat with the summer we've had in the UK. All in all i would recommend this Villa, its remote which we liked, others with teenage children may find that theres not enough to entertain them and the nearest village is about 15 minutes drive away. We found the cost of eating out much cheaper in this part of Spain than other areas that are more commercialised or tourist driven.
In summary - its a thumbs up from us.
