Casa Sofia a well equipped comfortable villa with a heated pool for all year round use, has a poolside kitchen/dining area ideal for romantic evenings. The house, decorated with original works of art, is in an elevated position in a very attractive rural setting, both peaceful and secluded. From the villa and pool there are amazing panoramic views of mountains across a beautiful valley, regularly visited by birds of prey. The living room has large picture windows from which to enjoy to enjoy these views indoors. The living room, kitchen and bedrooms are air-conditioned/heated. The terraces and the facade of the poolside building are finished in local stone. The villa is suited to guests who want to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, or like to explore the many different attractions which this area of Andalucia has to offer, such as exploring the Torcal, and the local festivals and culture. The owner is a practising artist and offers her guests private tuition in her studio.

The village of Villanueva De La Concepción is a lovely, friendly, safe place where guests may enjoy the lively, festive traditions of a typically vibrant Andalucian village. Within short walking distances there are traditional bars, restaurants, supermarkets, shops and other facilities, such as the recently constructed municipal swimming pool, a large pool in grass lawn surroundings with its open air bar with views towards the Torcal. El Torcal National Park, with its unique natural limestone sculptures and various walking routes, lies above Villanueva and is 10 minutes away by car. Beyond El Torcal the beautiful historic town of Antequera with its many ancient churches, distinctive architecture and prehistoric caves is a 25 minute car journey from Villanueva. El Chorro Gorge, Cordoba, the White Towns, Seville, Granada and Gibraltar are day trips by car. Malaga and Malaga Airport are approximately 45 minutes by car and the drive to Costa Del Sol resorts takes about one hour.

From here there are across the pool stunning views of mountains and the surrounding hilly countryside. Features of these spacious facilities include: fitted kitchen; gas barbecue;fridge-freezer; dining furniture; music system; original paintings; wide opening doors; hand-crafted natural stone pillars and rustic wooden pergola to provide shade; hand-crafted natural stone mosaic floors, walls and terrace, darts and lilos. There are two separate terraces: a large one surrounding the pool on three sides; a smaller one, outside the kitchen door equipped with a table and chairs for breakfasting etc. Wi-fi broadband internet access is available at the owner's house 80m away from Casa Sofia. The owners offer home made curries and a variety of breads, a 'taxi' service, baby-sitting, art lessons, and advice/assistance generally.

Casa Sofia - Good and Bad

We arrived late and it was dark. First impressions - miles away from anything but the pool area looked great. Living room and kitchen area were dated and not very clean, bedrooms nice, bathrooms dated.

We were shown infestation of wood lice around pool and told by Nalini that they come out at night then fall into the pool (which you, as I did, will have to spend 20 minutes each morning scooping them out!). What they didn't say is that they come into the villa, they have an infestation problem and don't see any reason to deal with it and said so. The lice are in the living room and hall every night and unless you wear shoes you will crunch on them in the morning - nice! Word of advice - use boiling water outside and spray with anti-bacterial spray both in and out and it keeps them away. The kitchen also had tiny ants which manage to squeeze into any small opening in a packet.

We had to wash all cutlery and crockery we wanted to use during our stay before we could use them - it was just so dirty. Grimey is how I would describe the pans, the oven, the window blind and cord and outside bbq area.

The views from the villa were stunning the pool was great. We were told the pool would be cleaned once a week however Barry came down a few times because of some fault with the programming for the cover. On our third week he said the pool was dirty and he would put something in the clean it and then hoover out the dirt - he put something in it then disappeared for 2 days and we were left with a very dirty pool as the dirt had all collected and sat at bottom of pool. He also came to clean the day before we left for the next people coming so again we coudn't swim the night before or the morning we left.

Barry expects you to clean thoroughly before you leave he does not think this is his job however no cleaning materials are provided - so beware. He helped us when our son was ill and came to Farmacia to translate and I will always be grateful for that.

Village has great bars - Xebar food is fab. Village has a wonderful Feria in August with a bull ring brought in for it. Antequerra is a great place to visit. El Torcal is great..

You are about 1 1\2 away from any beaches and driving on the windy roads is a drag.

No information was given to us about events happening an you are a long way from a tourist infomation.

We did have a great holiday but that is because we were outside, the villa is overpriced, under maintained and very dirty.

A great few days in Andalusia

Casa Sopia is delightful - everything and more than we expected. It was easy to live in, everything was straightforward, worked and was immaculate.

Barry and Nalini were fabulous hosts, you knew they were there if needed. During our stay we felt it was our home.

I would recommend the villa and also the restuarants in Antequerra and Casabermeja. The info pack provided was really helpful to get orientated.
